Okay so, I do know if I'm doing this right. I put my L600vbar at center stick - zero degrees collective. Then I put a pitch guage on the main rotor a pushed full aileron - ten degrees! Ten degrees? I thought it should be more in the area of six or seven degrees for vbar. I'm using a "slightly modified" version of the L600 preset.

1. Is this a correct way to measure cyclic pitch? If not, then what?

2. How much pitch should I be running for moderate 33d, oh wait that's my ex, I mean 3d flight?

Thanks!!!

Ivor

Yes that is the correct way to measure it.

I set for 3D
+/- 14 pitch,, 10 cyclic.
I only back it off if it get binding.

You must be in SETUP mode to measure cyclic pitch.
What happens in non-setup mode is up to the gyro & control loop since its enabled then and you cannot ever measure anything then, you just need to trust it.

+-10 is a good target, gyro need room to work.
When you fly doing a roll you have oncoming wind as well as maxxing rollrate, the gyro need to be able to handle that too.

I'm a bad student Mel. I just remembered a thread where you were explaining that vbar uses more cyclic pitch that flybarred heli because there are no paddles.

I got the setup mode thing. But I'm really not 100% sure about how I'me guaging my cyclic pitch. I put her in setup mode, blades stretched out along the main heading axis end to end, set the tx to center stick - zero pitch, then rock the aileron side to side. I'm getting 10 degrees when I measure it that way. I then rotate the blades 90 degrees and rock the elevator fore and aft. I'm getting 10 degrees there as well.

Does that sound about right?

Thank you Sir Mel!

Yep, that sounds exacty like it should, and yes, its the correct way to measure it.

Thank you! So, 10 degrees is average? What do you run?

I'll bring this thread back with a question of my own.
With my L400 on the bench, I'm getting 0 degrees at mid-stick when measuring collective but when I swing the blades to check cyclic it's way off! I'm thinking I should have 0 degrees at mid-stick for both collective & cyclic pitch, which I do not. The links to my blade grips are as per the manual (37mm). Any insight is appreciated.

Nothing but my opinion here...

Leave the "Cyclic Gain" (located on the Set-up page in the expert swashplate menu) @ the default setting (100). This will in fact give 10-12 degrees cyclic pitch. But...

That's where the old flybar habit of measuring cyclic pitch to help determine how active (or not) you want the cyclic to be should be left behind. 10-12 degrees with a flybar'd heli (for most humans), is WAY too much. But not with the V-Bar .

Leave the "Cyclic Gain" alone, and use the Main Rotor "Agility" to determine how active (or not) you want the cyclic control to be. The V-Bar will only use the amount of cyclic it needs to obtain the cyclic performance you want (based on your "Agility" setting).

Too little "Cyclic Gain" combined with too much "Agility" can lead to bad things happening .

10 deg is average, TDR henseleit has 14deg cyclic stock, not that it would use that much
