Well my last thread was closed before I had chance to update it so I've had to open another.

Success
Well I have to say fitting the new Teflon gasket come heat shield seems to have worked but I’m still wondering if it’s the actual shield or just the gasket so to prove this I’m going to make a new gasket only and try it, either way I’m pleased the problem is sorted and I can get back to flying but there’s always something crops up in this hobby and just as I sorted the fuel problem the tail servo started playing up so I need to replace that as well.

Did you make the gasket/heat shield out of a piece of a larger piece of teflon?

I'm glad that the carb shield thing worked for you. If you recall I fought that issue with mine for over a month. On the stock setup I covered the hole in the fan shield.
After the fan mod I used the stock shield with the Teflon on one side and stock gasket on the other. along with the new wally fan and all seems fine. I put over 12 flights on her at a fun-fly this weekend and my only issue was my V4 tried to fall off once. I think I'm going to weld that dang thing on

One flight Wonder

The 700G is becoming a one flight only Heli with the Zenoah carb, it flew perfect yesterday for a few minutes but then it started pulsing and I had to land it, a quick look established the RZ block needed nipping up again after only just fitting a new gasket but after one more flight it was pulsing again and then after the third flight the carb wouldn’t pump fuel and the priming bulb wouldn’t work so I packed up and came home early and when I got home the carb was cold and the bulb worked fine
I've gone back too the stock insulator block with paper gaskets and extended the shroud in hope it will direct the heat down and away from the carb and if this doesn’t work I'm stumped.
The previous extended Teflon gasket I made didn’t help after all.

Basically I've done the same only I just glued the plastic bit on instead of riveting it, the heat shield didn’t seem to work but I suppose using it with the extra plate might help.
Cheers

I tried gluing it but the fuel caused it to fall off after awhile.
for me it took both the fan shield cover and the carb shield to get it to work right. I then put one of Wally's fans on and don't need ether.

Well I can’t possibly run to buying another fan so I will try using both before I shelve it.

What if you made the whole carb mounting block out of a thick piece of
G10? I know aluminum will transfer heat a lot. Thats probbaly why Zenoah used plastic mount.

That might be worth trying if I could get hold of G10, lets see how it works with the plastic block first.

I made a few carb mounting blocks out of G10 for a Poulan chainsaw engine for a airplane and it worked great,i have never had a problem. The G10 also makes good strong threads if it's thick enuff.

Doesn't look like it.........

G-10 looks very similar to the carbon fiber frames you're used to seeing...... only instead of "carbon fiber" cloth, it's make from fiberglass cloth.

Here is a site that tells you how to make your own....

Thanks for the link it was interesting to watch but I could see myself getting into an awful mess trying to make my own so I will carry on the search for the correct material in the UK

The G10 i have is green and it looks kinda like fiberglass and carbon fiber. I made mine on a cnc but i have seen people make them with a dremel tool and a steady hand. They put the dremel in a holder that held the tool kinda like a drill press and just pushed it by hand. Hey sometimes you have to use what you got.
