haha,
you guys have me scared now.
I have not hot started yet.. thank goodness.
but the other day I turned on my TX and fired up my 90. Why was it idling so high? Figured it would warm up. Walked it out to the flight line and set it down. Tried to take off but no throttle response?
What did I miss?

Forgot to pull the pin on my Arizona Reg to turn on the receiver!

If the throttle had been open any more, I would have started under throttle and probably whacked myself up good and not know what to do.
(I fly the 90 alone most of the time but as safe as I possibly know how)
Thanks, now I know to stay calm, grab on, step on it and pinch the pipe shut!

You learn something new every day.

To fix my mistake of forgetting the reg power pin, I now took the red "remove before flight" ribbon tied to the pin and slip it over my remote glow head. This way, before I can even start the engine, I have to pull the pin and ribbon off the glow head to turn on receiver power.

Every detail counts!

I would not want to hot start a 90. I fly alone 95% of the time.

Done it two weeks ago with my 50. Wasn't holding the head very tight and it twisted out of my grip, but caught it with my other hand before it could spin more then half spin, other then some brusies and a hurt ego, the heli and I both were fine.

I'm allways right 97% of the time..............So who cares about the other 4%??

hot started my raptor 50v2 about a year ago. i held on to the head and turned to tell the wife to yank the fuel line while i grabbed my tx with the other hand. when i looked up she already had a good 100 yards of sprinting under her feet. never seen her run that fast before nor since. that one shredded the entire clutch bell and all.

fly it like you stole it

Hot started a 90 more than once myself. No big deal as long as you have a good grip in the blade holder. Usually its just the stick bumped up a little, no biggie just rerach over and pull it down.

Can't be scared of it....!!!!!

No hot start, yet, I hope I won't have one soon.

Electrics will rip through the gear, but it won't turn off. There is no fuel line on an electric. I have actually thought about finding 3 switches and having those control the brushless motor. either that or a single switch with 3 separate prongs for on and off.

a good tripple-pole switch would probably be a great idea on a brushless heli. the problem is gonna be finding one that can take the voltage/amperage, you can bet sure as hell radioshack wont have them laying around, though they can probably order one for you.

Had a few hot start on my 90 size. You really feel the power and torque of the engine in the short few seconds. It isn't anymore danagerous to hot start a 90 size than a 50 size as long as you have a grip on the main blade. I think the point is that as long as the main blades don't spin up, damage will be minimal, usually just the clutch liner.

#61 on the 700N list and Proud of it.

My very first start on my R50 was a hot start. My throttle was reversed in the radio (due to massive retardation on my part) so it went full throttle immediately. Because I had poured over RR and HF, it was a non-event. I had a good grip on a blade holder, and when it started, I just closed the fuel line clamp. It was off very quickly, and no clutch damage.
