I recently had a frightening incident that caused the heli to hit the ground and wanted to see what others thought.
My logo had just undergone a successful flight and I had landed when I tried to shut off the throttle. The blades continued spinning at 70% and I could do nothing to shut it down - tried throttle hold to no avail.I did have control over the cyclic and Pitch at the time so it was on the ground just spinning.
Eventually the control on the cyclic went and the heli keeled over and broke its new main blades and stripped the main gear..

I checked over everything afterwards and the receiver battery was dangerously low (I run a 2s lipo via regulator).

I am running a Futaba FF9 with 2.4GHz Fasst system.

Does a low receiver battery come within the realms of failsafe or is this just for low reception?
Also - it seems that the failsafe of the system is just for PCM and the instructions for the FASST system tell you to put it into PPM mode. On one of the forums I read that there was a throttle failsafe in PPM - if so how does one activate it?

At any rate - I guess you don't want throttle cut for helis in failsafe - do you?

Of course I will be recharging my RX battery more often!!!
Other than that, all comments gratefully received!!

I have my throttle as the fail safe on my Futaba 7c 2.4 tx. Hopefully I never have to use it, but I would rather lose the heli than have it slam, blades till spinning at full rpm into someone.

Of course you want throttle cut on failsafe! If you also have the right setting on pitch and (any stabiliser like Spartan etc), you might be able to save the heli.

We hit failsafe from 100 feet, and the throttle cut, pitch went to 4 degrees negative, and the Spartan AP2000 went to 100% gain. This ensured that the heli remained level throughout the descent, the drive gear was unharmed, and terminal velocity was limited by the pitch, and we only broke one U/C leg (and the camera underneath the heli).

I had been mentally preparing the garbage bag.....

We had an elecrtric heli loose control at our club, it was very dramatic. The guy who owned the heli had absoloutly no control, so I took my jacket off and threw it on the heli. Then I was able to disconect the battery.
The heli was already doing the funky chicken, but even if it wasnt, the most important thing is to get the heli under control safely and as quickly as possible, even if it means damaging the machine.

If your running PCM, engine should go to idle in failsafe. You wouldn't want it to shut down everytime it gets a glitch, however going to idle should be enough to alert you of the lockout if its intermittent.
