Trust me, Jimbo, I will. I was just hoping to find a low-cost solution to get my low-cost heli in the air. So far, I have more invested in parts & tools than the whole heli cost me, and I STILL haven't gotten to fly it.

But I am not complaining. It's not every day that one buys a .30 nitro heli for $100, and I don't mind the TLC or learning. Especially when I have a great bunch of guys here to help me get started.

Mike, I found Yongsan RC, thanks for the directions. Real close to home for me, too. They have a JR DSX9 transmitter for less than JR sells their x9303, but the instructions were all in Japanese & Korean. Gonna do a web search and see what I can learn about it. Looks remarkably like the x9303.

They also sell small helis, 400-450 class at least.

Thanks for the progressive taxi instructions!

Ok so it's been a while since last we spoke about my Quick 30. I got my x9303 and JR921 combo. Now for setting up the head properly. Is there instructions posted somewhere on how to do this?

It seems to me that I need to level the flybar somehow before trying to adjust the pitch in the M/R blades... how do I accomplish this?

And is there something online, preferably a video, showing proper operation of each servo, and the channel it should be assigned to?

TIA!

Check out the videos on this link, you will find how to set up a eCCPM heli(120* swashplate using 3 cyclic servos).

Ok, so I did the CCPM part 1&2 videos by FB. Blades are 0° at mid-stick, and about +/- 10° at full up and full down. Everything seems to be correct, from the swashplate level on up to the washouts and scissors. All I need now is a tail rotor linkage to power her up and giver her a run. Hopefully, that will arrive along with my canopy in the mail this week. I'm getting excited!!

Ok, does anyone have any suggested throttle/mixing curves they want to share to get me pointed in the right direction? And what about tail/throttle mixing? Will I need this when using a 601 gyro?

Thanks!

Still waiting on those suggested curves, Men!!

And guess what? We broke ground tonight, nothing else!! Yes, I hovered this durn thing! It was only for about 2 seconds, enough to start to spin, before I set it down. But she HOVERS!! The track and balance is NICE, I would say less than 1-2mm track split. As with any helo, it shook a bit as it spun up, but it was smooth enough to not even turn left or right as I increased throttle, until I started to break ground.

And all of this without the GY601 installed. Doing that now, need to find something online to tell me how to set it up. Any pointers for this task?

You won't need any throttle to tail mixing using the 601, so you can just inhibit those options in your TX.

As far as the curves.....I always hate giving out numbers, because with different engines, blades, setup, etc.. you will have differences with different individuals. Just set everything up with the "90 degree rule". At 1/2 throttle collective, you should be around zero degrees pitch and 50% throttle. This is if you are going to hover around 3/4 stick.

With the TX in "normal" mode, I usually set up my pitch curve to have around -3 at low stick and +9 at the full collective. In idle up I have -9 at bottom and +9 at the top.

The only difference in my throttle curve between normal and idle up is that from 1/2 stick down on normal the throttle decreases. The throttle curves are pretty much the same from 1/2 to full in either mode.

If you feel the headspeed is too fast, then back off on the throttle curve a little, and vice versa. You should be able to hover at around 5-6 degrees of pitch running a 1500 to 1600 headspeed.

Drat the luck, it's raining (monsoon season here), so after the 601 install, I took 'er down to my parking garage, away from all cars. Tweaked the needle so that it will idle and allow full throttle, finally, though it seems to be touchy keeping it running. Any tips on setting the needle & throttle?

Pillars and walls in the garage made me nervous, but I DID get it in the air for a few seconds 5 or 6 times. Always seems to want to drift left with T.T., should I try and trim this out in the radio, or just fly it manually? In my mind, I would want to let go of the cyclic, and have her hover, no movement either direction. Is this correct? If so, what setting in the radio to correct for this?

I can't wait to get outside and try to hover for real. I mimicked SP's settings even before reading his post (about -3° at full down in NORM, about +10° at full collective). Don't even want to think about idle 1 or 2, just want to be able to hover. Have set D/R & EXP for cyclic so the curves are fairly flat, to minimize me overcontrolling, is this a good idea?

I think now that she is flying, it would be a great time to link up with Mike and get some assistance. Mike, if you read this any time soon, would love to borrow some of your spare time. 011)9632-1862.

Thanks for all your input, I am almost there!!

If you want, we can get together next weekend sometime. Sunday would be best for me. Let me know what will work for you.

Ok, so I have some fit problems with the canopy. Just tried it tonight, and unless I am missing something, I have the wrong one.

The rear standoffs stick out the windows, the top part rubs against the swash push rods, and the lower front standoffs are in a "cheek" area, so they are not up against the canopy material for the screws to hold there.

Also, there was a small crack in the top part, right side of the swash, so I don't want to push on it too much. The bottom of the canopy is firmly up against the bottom of the heli, so there is no way it is going any higher.

Any ideas?

You place is fine. I'll drive up.

It looks like your canopy is tilted a little nose up which is why it may be rubbing on the swash plate. Try bringing the nose of the canopy down a bit and see how it looks.

It looks like you need to cut the bottom of the canopy out a little bit to allow the canopy to sit straight. I use the dremel cutoff wheel to do the rough cutout, and then you can finish the rounded edges with the sanding drum.

Even if I cut the bottom of the canopy, it would take a lot to move it up enough for the upper standoffs to be outside the window. Then I don't think it would be around the swash area, either.

How necessary/helpful is the wiffleball training gear?

Necessary? Depends. It wasn't for me, but then again I had 25 years of model aircraft flying experience before trying to learn how to fly a heli. But it may come in handy for someone that has never flown a heli and cannot handle an intermediate sport rc plane.

The main thing training gear does is reduce the new pilot's fear of crashing while trying to hover. The training gear can also help prevent some damage in case of an accidental crash while learning to hover.

YOU CAN MOVE THE STANDOFFS

This is a replacemnt canopy & may require moving the standoff on the frames to accomodate a better fit..canopy

Also, by looking at your pics, you could lower the nose of the canopy and bring it forward just a little bit and you should be able to have the standoffs in a workable area. Also like Jon mentioned earlier, you may have to cut out the bottom of the canopy as well. I have always had to cut the bottom out for clearance of the lower frame.
