If you can get that combo for the same price or less than the 401, by all means......

My point is that you should be more concerned with getting up in the air and learn how to fly rather than be worried about all of the "bling"......

Burning fuel is the only way you're going to do it, along with a decent amount of simulator time......

Do yo have a sim ?

Yes, RF G3.5. Not terribly great at it, but getting better. I don't vrash anymore unless I try the 3D stuff.

And while you are correkt about spending fuel to learn, I can't get it up without buying a new TX/RX combo, and I'll need either a 401/601, so if the money is about the same, and if the 601 is better, I'll go for that.

I'm in hurry up and wait mode right now...

Hey Fhawk, yes , Quick World Wide does have everything you need and then some. They have the best customer service in the buisiness, and ship your stuff out quick.

, I will end up with a gasser before this is over

I have the Quick World Wide , Bat 26cc gasser and it is an awsome heli. Email Irwin or Jon at QWW and they have a gasser for you.
$18 dollars for a gallon ? That is a good price . Here in Texas it is around $25/$30 a gallon..

Mike,

Are you back around Osan yet? If so, would you have time to link up with me and help me look the bird over? It needs some tracking, I know just got new blades on it, and am waiting on a response from Jon @ quickworldwide.com as to a tail rod and canopy, then hopefully this thing will be ready to hover. I would also like for you to check out my TX, I don't think it is capable of CCPM, so it is basically worthless to me right now, except for controlling throttle while I tune the engine and balance the blades.

Thanks!
Hawk

F6Hawk,

I can give you a hand with the Quick if needed. I'm currently stationed at Osan Airbase (deployed to Suwon AB until the end of May). I've flown Quick machines for about three years now and love how they fly. Currently, I have a Quick 50 Pro and a Octane Dominator with me.

That 9ZAP radio is a good one and should work very well until you move to the DX radio.

Jimbo offered great advice on the gyro and rudder servo combo. Even if you have years of flying planes under your belt, a gyro will make life so much easier when learning how to fly a heli. Don't worry ... your Quick will work nicely as a trainer.

Also, is there a good reference for tracking the blades on the Quick 30? I have my pitch gauge, and am ready to give it a "whirl"!

Not yet. I'm stuck at Suwon (which is actually closer to Seoul than Osan AB is) until May 20th. I plan on taking some time off from work at the end of the month, so will have lots of time to give you a hand.

If you haven't yet, you may want to drop into the Quick web site and download a Quick 30 manual. It's located at [url=http://www.quickheli.com/instructions.asp]. If you scroll down the page, you will find the Quick 30 manuals that list the starting control rod lengths. That will get things started for set up.

Checking the Futaba web sites, the 7UHF does not have CCPM mixing. The next version of the radio, the 7UHF Super, does have CCPM mixing. If you have the 7UHF non-super transmitter, you will not be able to use it. Its too bad, because that 7UHF radio is a good radio. I bought a 7UHF Super back in 1993 and still use it for planes to this day.

I haven't heard of Joy Hobby, but would like to check the place out. Did you find it? What was it like?

Yongsan Hobby is kinda tough to find in the electronics marcket. I'll see if I can dreg up a map or something to help. Even better would be for me to drive up one day to meet you and show you where it is. heh.

I would not even try to track the blades until you have a radio and have the heli set up in the radio. You will just be farting in the wind trying to track it with no swashplate control.

Jimbo, are you saying that I can't even set the swashplate to level and make the adjustments? The current radio I have WILL allow me to power the servos, and centers everything. I even strapped the heli to a table and ran it some, just to start the motor break-in and see how she idled. I can get the rotor up to full speed now, but of course can't make much in the way of inputs.

I am looking at some 9303 and DX7 controllers, hope to land a good deal on a DSM2 system soon, then I will be in business fer real. I just received my 601 gyro setup, will need to incorporate that into the heli. Does it matter which receiver input the gyro plugs in to?

Thanks for the help!

The x9303 is about the best radio there is in my op[inion. I fly the DX7 and it has been a good radio. I sold a Futaba 9cap super to get the DX7. Best trade I ever did.
You can try to adjust the swashplate , but it will have to be done all over when you get your ccpm radio.

Mike,

I found Joy Hobby & it WAS nice, much larger than the other shops I have been to. Still have the language barrier thing going on, but they DID have some larger helis in the store, though not sure if they were for sale or other people's just stored there. Saw no large kits in a box for sale. They had some TRex 25/400/600 parts on display, though not a ton of those.

I would love to link up with you and go over the bird with a fine-toothed comb, and perhaps set it up using your radio & receiver since I don't have one yet. Who knows, you may even be able to get it to hover, so I can be assured that it IS a heli! But anythig you would be willing to do in the way of making it fly would be most appreciated. I could bring the family down to Songtan for some shopping (BORING), and hang with you and talk Heli stuff (FUN). Or, if you'd rather come up this way, we could work on it here, and perhaps visit the hobby shop, if you wanted. The beer would be on me, of course, in either location.

Good luck on the golf tourney, hope you make Tiger proud!

Ok, Jimbo, I guess you DID request the after pics, sorry I was so delinquent getting them posted. My cam broke, so I had to borrow my son's. (Don't want to waste money on a new one, that takes away from my heli money!)

At any rate, here are the ugly skeletal pics. I am waiting on Jon @ quickworldwide to get back to me on part #s so I can order and make this thing LOOK like a heli!

I should be able to set up my 7CAP transmitter for your heli. What frequency is the receiver in it?

Futaba TP-TP-FM 72, channel 32 or 23. Narrow 20KHz 191 band. Whatever all of THAT means!

Awwww, shucks, Jimbo, thanks! She ain't much more than a skeleton, but hopefully my quick parts will get here the same way (quick!), and she won't be QUITE so ugly.

The main thing is that the engine runs well, and the servos all work. Now if I can just find a good deal on a X9303 and RX...

the 9 zhp does more than almost any other radio. i flew cppm for years with a 9z before i got my 14mz. ignore the mix menu. put the swash in 120deg ccpm.

SR-3 Type
If the servo inputs match the figure, use SR-3 Mixing.
With Aileron inputs, the aileron and pitch servos tilt the
swashplate left and right;
with Elevator inputs, the three servos tilt the swashplate
fore and aft;
with Pitch inputs, all three servos raise the swashplate up
and down.

lthis is on page 56 in the manual. ron

Please cancel my clearance, I have the field in sight.

So the 9ZHP would work, eh? That figures. I don't have the right TX pack for it. I only have 2 packs for the 7UHF, they are FP-TP-FM style. Looks like I actually need a FP-TK-FSS. Looking for one now.

Thanks for the info! If I can find one for cheap, I may take the plunge. Otherwise, I will keep searching for a x9303.
