Started to wonder if I was the only one to have one anymore. I see Hobby People is selling them for $99.99 now. Maybe I should buy 2 for spares.

I am looking at purchasing one from Hobby People. How do you like it? Can you compare it to a T-Rex 450 in terms of size and stability for me? What gear do you use in it and batt size? Is it worth it? Thank you

Will

I have 2. It is smaller than a 450, more like 200. I like it as it is cheap to repair and is very docile. Most parts are around $4.00 or less to replace. It is stable; however extremely quick on cyclic. I put 2 sets of Dubro wheel collars on the flybar and it toned it down real good for hover and FFF cyclic is still quick, but stable. I'm on the road so I have to use my memeory. I put in Futaba 3154s and they are okay. They obviously have limited torque and centering. I changed to Hitec HS-65 and what a difference. You have to hog-out the servo openings. It is a tight fit for stuff, but doable. I use Flight Power 2070mah packs. I originally had Flight Power 2500mah packs as the instuctions said 2500mah was the max size. It was too big and doesn't fit in the space designated. I use a DX-7 TX and Rx. Futaba GY401 gyro. Everything else came with the heli and works good. They cost $200 at first and I got mine for $150 each, so I ordered a second one for spares. At $99 you can't go wrong. The weak link is the main gear as the pinion will strip it easy (soft plastic). Stock blades are good and cost $13/pr.

Another thing I like about it, is you can carry it under one arm, stuff 3 battery packs in your pocket and the Tx in the other hand and walk over to the park. It is a park size heli, but will do alot of bigger heli stuff. They claim it will autorotate, but only if you are in a 3 foot hover or less. The main shaft is soft and you should have a spare top bearing block. I needed one once and I didn't want to order the bearing and pay for shipping for the one bearing, so I used a Synergy bearing, which I think came out of the blade grip.

I fly a Cypher. Ended up rebuilding it after a crash caused by the stock motor quitting. Replaced the stock main gear with a Trex gear so that I would have more freedom in choosing pinion gear sizes, instead of having to deal with hard to find fine pitch gears. You have to grind down the bottom of the tail drive pulley just a tiny bit to eliminate any friction between the main gear and the pulley, and then it works great. I'm using a 10T pinion on a KMS outrunner Quantum 3200kv motor, with a Hobbywing Pentium 30 amp ESC. Running the headspeed in the low to mid 2000s, and getting a solid 11 minutes of flying with 20% left in the 2500 mah Impulse lipo. Even with it tamed down for endurance, this thing does aerobatics like it's on rails due to the high CG. Did the same thing with the wheel collars on the flybar for a little better stability.

You're welcome, Copperclad. So far I've put about ten flights on it with the Trex gear, and I'm happy with it. Main difference is that it is a little noisier, but like I care.

Align 450 Trex gear in Cypher

ch-47, I just happened upon your question, 4 months later! It's Align part # HB 6006. I'm still running the Cypher with the Align gear with no issues. With an 11T pinion, a KMS 3200 KV outrunner motor from Hobby People, and the 2500 mah Impulse battery, I get an impressive 12 minutes of flying with 20% reserve. The esc I'm using is out of a stock Helipro Blackhawk 450, which looks like one of those Mystery ESCs from Hong Kong sold on EBay. It's just not as powerful as the stock motor, of course, but it still does just fine.

Hey dmaan87, since you like flying over water, would you be interested in a set of inflatable floats that I designed and intend to market in the future? They go on the Trex, but they'll fit on the Cypher too.

You're welcome CH47C. The floats work awesome dmaan87. You are right, the protype floats do cost just about as much as a cypher kit.
