My Posts This: Topic Forum | 6mm spindleA couple in this thread have made the statement that they don't see the need to upgrade to the 8mm spindle. I was in that camp until Sunday. I've been flying my knight for some time (couple of years at least) with the 6mm spindle, doing mild 3D. On Sunday I was pulling some large loops when I heard a big bang, something flew off the heli (the tail assembly) and the heli dropped to the ground like a brick from about 100ft. I'd had a boom strike, good and proper. I can only think this was due to the 6mm shaft bending in flight and I have no idea why it would have bent then when its been fine for ages.
Needless to say I've now ordered the 8mm upgrade, together with the higher spec clutch assembly and required spares - only came to £138 which includes £55 for the two upgrades. A pretty cheap repair given the impact the heli had. One of the V1 side frames cracked but was able to repair it, to upgrade to the V2 frames (both sides) would have been another £40.
This is one solidly built heli and cheap to repair
