there are still many people who prefer the 6mm.

Why?

Tradhunt is right. Tho I have one of the first batches of the K3D which has 6mm spindle. After a couple of months, Compass released the 8mm upgrade. I didn't get the upgrade. IMO, it serves as a fuse during crashes. I'd rather bend it than destroy more parts on the head. I had some full rotor impact on the grass and the 6mm bended, which was great rather than break my Radix SB.

Are all the current K3D kits 8mm? and (front) tail servo mount?
Is the Flybarless Head 8mm? I had a couple of the earlier kits and the spindle would bend in flight, had to use the Quick UK spindle.

Yes, no and yes, in that order. Tail servo mount is a kit you buy from Compass but others are making them out of various other bits as well.

Both of mine are still 6mm. I still have spares so until they are used up I probably won't change. I only had problems bending spindles around the time they had the bad batch out there.

I was thinking about getting K3D. Does anyone know if the current kits come with the metal tail pulley?

Jax,

I don't believe they do but why would you need to? I've only had mine break once and that was in a crash.

I have had them split in half, unless they have changed the plastic. The metal pulley on the tail fixed that issue. I believe their is some threads on this subject. I thought the kits would be updated with stuff like the metal tail pulley, white main gear and the 8mm spindle and maybe a extra gyro mount plate.

They HAVE been updated. The 8mm Spindle IS standard on the 3D. The White Main Gear is also standard on the 3D now. As for the Gyro plate, it's not required plus they are super cheap if you want an extra one. I have ALL the gadgets on my 3D and they fit without an extra. It's tight alright but doable. The only bit I don't have is a separate Gyro Amp because I run a LogicTech on that ship....

I have one of the older Knight 3D's (the ones that came with the Hirobo-like plastic canopy).

Right after I built it, the issues about the 6mm spindle started to crop up (about two days after I had cleaned the threads and lock-tited the original spindle).

I picked up a Hirobo spindle and installe that. I am still flying the original transparent (hard) dampers. The machine is quick, but smooth, and very nice to fly.

I don't know that I ever will upgrade to the 8mm spindle (I have a spare Hirobl shaft still).

I beleive that the problems associated with the 6mm spindle were limited to only one brief production run. My original Knight Pro still has its stock spindle and it has never had any issues with bending in flight (possiby because I do not do hard 3D).

I have owned both the knight and the trex, I had a Knight 50 3d and totaled it when the ground decided to jump up and grab it. I bought a trex 600NSP because my friends told me to. (stupid peer pressure)

I am in the process of trading in the trex airframe for the knight 50 3d. I like the knight better. It flies better, and can be smacked around a lot faster. Plus it looks cooler in my opinion.

I have a knight 600e on order as we speak. I vote for the knight. It is lighter, so there is less strain on the airframe and motor. not to mention that the maintenance is almost non existent. the trex has bad bearings, weak metal head parts.

If you are worried about the plastic on the head and tail. I never broke any of the plastic, including the grips. I ran 2100 on the head speed.

I vote Knight 50 3d

I find the harder I "throw down" at the field... the more peices i have to pick up.

For those with an early 3D, I think there are a couple of pieces standard on the newer birds that are worthy of consideration.

The Bando belt is a must, it's much stronger (kevlar reinforced) and more flexible than the old style 3M belts.

The deeper main belt pulley moves the flange on the pulley away from the belt and makes for less drag. If you get the deeper pulley you will need to use the spacer between the pinion and the clutch bell or the pulley will rub on the clutch bell.

Alternately you can use a new clutch bell which has the extra material, negating the need for the spacer.

I think that everyone already knows to use the white machined main gear.

If you break the old style frames, find the newest style for replacements with the angled front "legs", they are the strongest versions.
