| I witnessed two accidents at a two different fields , one was my french diplomat friend who almost lost his fingers , the tail blades mangled his hand, the other a girl was learning to hover and the heli slid back on her at the knees and the blades sliced down thru both her shin bones . she lost alot of blood then . friends at the field put her in the car and immediately rush her to the local hospital , she was very lucky.

| It's just a matter of time before either loss of life or limb occurs. These things are getting CRAZY with 91's and graphite blades. I saw one cut like BUTTER through a piece of 4" PVC the other day.
We'll ALL know when one happens though because the AMA fees will go up to about $400 / year if it doesn't put them out of business altogether.
Keep the flight path left to right is what I do.

| We had an incident no too long ago at our club where a member was testing out his .30 size heli when the throttle stuck. He decided to try and reach under the rotor and attempt to disconnect the fuel line. The heli pitched toward him, and caught him on the arm.
At the time, I was flying, and i heard a loud TWACK, and suddenly, chunks of rotor were scattered all over the field. Oddly enough, the stricken flyer never even made a sound, he just calmly walked over to us, and politely stated "I think my arm is broken, could you drive me to the hospital?"
later that day, we learned he had frctured is arm in 3 places, recieved 38 stitches, reconstructive neurosurgery, and severed nearly all the ligaments in his wrist. The doctors had to transplant nerves and veins from his leg, to his arm. Today, he admits it was a very stupid thing to have done. He recovered with only minor sideeffects.
Now consider this- when he got nailed, he was wearing a layered clothing and a leather Harley Davidson Biker jacket, and he nearly lost his arm. The amount of focused energy contained in a helicopter blade is tremendous, whenever I look at my concept 30, I cringe.

| i watched a 24 inch carbon prop take my friends arm off with a DA 50 about 3 months ago. he was medivac in less than 15 mins, and lost 60% of his blood. they were able to save the arm, and he was flying his raptor 30 only 4 weeks after the accident. truly amazing.

i'm sure as the post for TOM BASS HUSTON DEATH gets more reads, . Ron. or someone mentioned on here ERGODUDE i believe died when the blades cut his jugular. it's very sad thing to hear. R.I.P

| Just recently my friend was hit by a raptor 30 with 10 minute old carbon fiber blades. He was flying an airplane and our friend was flying the raptor. They were the only 2 people at the field other than my friends wife. (if she wouldn't have been their he probably wouldn't have made it.) From what I gather something happened to the tail rotor on the rappy, the pilot yelled but are friend looked up just in time for the first blade to hit him in the chin, in which it virtually cut his jaw off. The blades also hit the top of his head, his back, the juglar vein, his thyroid, and im not sure what all else. His wife was a jewel, while the guy that hit him was in shock and couldn't do much of anything she got her husband, (who looked like Jason on the halloween movies just got done with him, not hardly a spot on his body wasn't covered with blood), to the local fire dept and got him professional help with in 10 minutes, probably saving his life. Unbelievably my friend is doing very well with only a small spot in his lip that has no feeling. Thank God!
Im not sure how my friend would take me telling you all this story but I feel its imperative after seeing with my own crying eyes what these machines will do to you if it hits you or anyone else.

| Death by heli.
We had a man killed by his heli here in houston a week ago. I don,t have all the info on it but it occurred in a city park at a flying site provided by the city of houston. The guy was trying to teach his friend to hover and the heli got away from him and during the exchange of transmitter he was hit by the blades in the neck. I have no other details but let me assure you that it is true.

There was a case in the UK in fact there has been 2 so far i am aware of since jining this hobby,
the first one was in the midlands where an instructor was training a new pilot and they werent on buddy lead, the new pilot put in a full back cyclic movement and the helicopter came flying back into the instructor and killled him instantly, it is still going through the legalities.
The 2nd incident was not far from me, where a pilot was flying around someone walked out behind him without him knowing and he got the helicopter right in his back, it killed him instantly,
Unfortunalty it seems to be on the increase, it is shame cos the BMFA has strict clear guidlines, but its like driving car you have treat everyone as an idiot and never assume anything

| I don't know if its worth mentioning or not, but Atlanta's alternative paper, Creative Loafing, listed the Ron Kyle incident in its "News of the Weird" section in this week's edition. I don't have it in front of me now, but it basically said "A man was killed when he lost control of his radio controlled helicopter and it struck him in the neck (Houston, November)"
Is it worth correcting the facts of the story? No names were mentioned. Just struck me as odd that it came up again and yet was inaccurate.

remour has it that a helli killed a man in the US last year. he was an instructor of a student that owned the helli. The instructor was not watching his student, the student lost control and ran, when the buddy lead pulled on the instructors control he looked around !!!to late!!! killed by helli

It all happened on March 19th, at a field near Ashdod, Israel.
The boy came with his dad to watch a friend flying his helicopter, when suddenly the pilot lost control of the heli (I don't know if it was a pilot error or a problem with the heli) and it crashed in the boy causing head injury...
The boy was hospitalized with critical damage, had some operations, but with no luck, he was passed away a few days later....
I hope you all get the picture of how dangerous this hobby really is!!!
BTW: The heli was "just" .30 type (I think Shuttle or Raptor)....

| This occured a few years ago while he was stationed in Korea. After not having any time off for a considerable period of time he finally got the opportunity to go flying. He inquired as to where the locals were flying their heli's and borrowed a vehicle to get there. When he got there he noticed that there seemed to be no control or organization of any sort. A 60 size heli was screaming away with a super high head speed tearing up the sky practically out of control. A couple of minutes later while removing his heli out of the back of his vehicle he glanced up just in time to see that same heli decapitate some one. In his post he remarked that even though he was a surgeon it was obvious that no matter what medical training anybody had it was pointless to even go over to see if he could help, the head just fell right off of the unfortunate individuals body. He simply put his stuff back into the vehicle and vowed to never return to that flying area again.
