Of heading, yes.

Remember the gyro cannot sense and doesn't care about side to side movement.

Edit: Good example is to go back to Pinecone's compasses placed throughout the heli. Each will read North at the same time, and East at the same time.

With this gyro location (to the right of a longitudinal axis, but to perpendicularly main shaft - see photo), will work normal ?

Thank you.

Yup. So long as that little plate it is on is FLAT perpendicular to the mainshaft.

Interesting discussion.

My 401 is mounted perpendicular to the main shaft but slightly left of the center line "nose to tail". My tail drifts nose left ever so slightly while hovering and I can trim it in flight to hold but with the next flight, it will drift again even though it was trimmed previously. I end up with large amounts of rudder trim. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm pretty certain that rudder trim with the use of a gyro is a big no no.

Then how do you correct the drift? As long as the gyro doesn't go out of HH (a few clicks of trim). The large amount I mentioned is cumulative over several flights.

The reason you get the same drift on the next flight is because the 401 will cancel the trim on start up, in other words when the gyro initializes it takes the position of your rudder and makes that the center position, therefore your now trimmed rudder position is now the center and will introduce the drift.

You need to mechanically adjust your tail blades to take out the drift, to do this you have to take the gyro out of heading hold and determine which way its drifting. Then you counter it by adjusting each tail blade into the direction of drift. Then when you get that all sorted out, you will have no drift while in HH.
