For those who are interested in wireless SIM....
You can now project on a big screen and fly
Here is my latest project - Very Very Happy witht he outcome.

This came out of the necessity to get a SIM to work with my Spektrum DX7SE. Not sure if anyone else have a different solution.

For all those who fly in front of a BIG Screen, you can now move around.

This can be done for all TX using Spektrum Technology and SIM that can support external transmitter using ppm mode.

The product description on the Spektrum web site says that it is for use with the FS One simulator. So the adapter in your picture is something that you made? Details please.

OK, I didn't ask the right question. On Reflex and Phoenix the USB device that comes with the sim is the copy protection. The sim will not run without that USB key. I thought RealFlight was the same, but I don't own it, so I don't know for sure. So, to use with Reflex, I couldn't just connect the Spektrum receiver directly to a USB port, because the software would not see the necessary hardware key.

Looking at your picture, it seems that the output of the Spektrum receiver is directly connected to the USB of your computer. I suspect I am just missing something.

here you go

ops...I miss out one portion in my previous diagram.
Here you go, this should explain how you can get it going.
Bascially the only USB port that I connect to is just to take 5V supply from pc/notebook to the WL1000.

hey there

thank you for the diagram, it helped me a lot. just soldered it and it works. awesome

the data + and data - pins don't matter with the phoenix sim for me (3 pin jack) but with reflex sim i had to swap (2 pin jack). and the colors you used didn't match with mine, but the pins that are used are correct

but i got a big ole problem. it drops the connection pretty often and i can't really fly with it. what's the problem? 2.4ghz interference? bad antenna in the WL1000 ? or is it a bad usb power? (where a capacitor could improve it, thats what i was thinking)

EDIT: ok, found out that if you use your sticks a lot, the chance is a lot higher to lose the connection to the wl1000 unit. any ideas?

not sure

Florian,

Not sure where the problem is as I am not a good 3D flyer so probably don't push too much stick input to the SIM (wireless). But I am surprise that this happen. This is btoh SIM you have ?

I wold suggest you check the wiring to make sure there is not "loose" joint on the soldering.

You might have some other wireless devices in your home on 2.4 ghz that are interferring - a wireless mouse or telephone for example. If you have anything close to the path between you and the receiver like that, it could cause problems.

What are peoples' thoughts about running the transmitter continuously with this setup. I think that the normal wired connection does not run the transmitter power to the antenna. If this is the case, I would think that using this setup could unintentionally reduce the lifespan of the radio.

Ok, don't think that my skills would kill it because I'm too good. Just a rookie as well. Doing not more than loops, rolls, inverted hovering :-P (and some experiments with reverse loops, etc)

well, i can even put the wl1000 right next to it, not even at a distance of 3-4 inch. keeps dropping, at both simulators!

i could "recheck" my solderings, but I'm sure, they are ok, as I've already tried that...

Don't know if it gets a problem with the wireless home phones and WLAN over here in germany. but then again, that would be horrible for all dsm2-flyers.

I'm thinking that the antenna is having a problem

and talking about the life span. Hmm, true, might reduce it, since your sending it out all the time, BUT I'll be getting a dx7 in a couple of month, for sim training and a radio for my dad to fly with the heli he's got

Although this is VERY cool... my biggest reservation (short of hearing of a few problems) is that with my SIM time, the TX is running full power TX mode.

I like the fact that when using the trainer port, the actual radio is not on. More battery life before re-charge. The cable hanging down from the TX does not bother me when I am doing SIM.

try hooking up a sim cable to a dx7 se ;-) won't get you anywhere since the trainer port has been "eliminated".

another question. what happens if you connect the data + and data - directly to the usb port? could you then use it for other sims like HELI X, FMS, etc? (talking about joystick-simulators)

Ohhh... I did not know the DX7SE did not have the port. Now this makes waaaaay more sense.

And really good point, could add some possibilities to running G4 with my 9303 without having to dink around with plugging in through the RealFlight TX.

Update

I dont know if you can connect the signal directly to the USB port because I have it to an Hitec USB SIM cable. I use this with the emu.exe to get the SIM to work.
I also have the G4 software with G4 controller and DX7SE plug onto the G4 controller and it work.

Try it out and let me know if it can connect directly to the USB port.

Yes I need to charge the battry of the tx more often. I have been doing that before I got the Dx7SE as I was using the 12FG directly with Phoenix SIM. So no big deal for me.

haven't tried a plain usb cable yet, but I have a question: what servo atvs are you using in your dx7 se?

when i used 150% on the 5 main channels, it dropped the connection whenever i get close to maximum stick movement.

now i reduced it to 100% atv for all, it barely drops the connection anymore. I'll try reducing it to 85% on every channel, then i think it'll stay connected.

Work great with Reflex

I did the test with Reflex Xtr and it work great. I used the power from the Reflex adapter so i don't use and extra usb plug. Look me photo to see the result.

clean wiring

CyberFrankyBoy,

That is a very clean wiring. You have any wire diagram to show between the reflex and wl1000, that will be good to share.

Wiring for Reflex XTR adapter

This is the wiring for Reflex adapter.

I used a telephone wire and a s-video adapter that i bought in an electronic furniture store. I used a s-video adapter that you can open to solder wires.
