Hi All,

Which model is newer, Hornet II or X-3D? What are the physical and technical differences between them? Which is best suited and designed for hardcore extreme 3D flying?

Thanks!

X3D is newer but not much was changed other than the battery mount which is vertical inside the canopy on the X3D and horizontal underneath on the H2 and a glued together section of the H2 frame is now bolted together on the X3D

The XFP has the H2 config but also fully bolts together like the X3D so if you wanted to you could swap the lower frame on the X3D with that of the XFP for a different configuration to balance with different weight batts etc

About the only other difference I can think of is the larger canopy on the X3D to accommodate for the batt inside it

HII 2003 design (X-CP is like the HII with a face lift)
X3D 2005 design

I once wrote:
The main useful X3D improvements over the H2 stock:

Pre made canopy with stickers (better)
New frame layout with battery up front and Axi/Twister ready

Bell hiller mixer as standard in plastic
3 bearings in each blade grip
Ball in swash

One way bearing on main gear (auto's) new type with main shaft

Steel tail shaft on 4 bearings
Tail blade grips with small bearings
Tail blade bolts through the hub onto tail shaft securely
Carbon fins

X-3D Blades: Weighted 12g 257mm black CF blades E489s, the old H2 weighted. (Note that $99 deals swap in cheaper very skinny flexible TE480 GF blades that probably don't perform in 3D though hover/fly fine, avoid if possible).

The X3D is ~360g+, the H2 can be more easily configured with CofG to fly lighter 320-340g. Everything is possible with some thought .

Given that the Hornet is pratically out of production, although I'm not fond of the look I would check out the LA Heli MaxIR/Ricco line for a similar experience.
