anybody stretch their atom yet?seems like since a 600 boom will fit the only thing left is to find a belt.do you think the motor could handle 550s?

I think you could get away with 500s 550s may be a bit much though. Either would require a different motor. You'd also have to figure out the tail belt size. I have a Logo 10 running 550s and it has a Z-30 in it which is much larger and more powerful than the stock Atom motor.

470's like the LAHeli Sniper V2 uses would be just right. That could use the stock motor, but you'd still lower the disk loading by quite a bit. A chopped-down Knight boom and appropriate belt (plus blades) would be all you'd need. Probably a smaller pinion to lower the headspeed would be nice too, since the lower disk loading wouldn't require high headspeed to perform.

Food for thought anyway.

It is the belt that inhibits me from doing it.
There are quite a few websites selling industrial timing belts. I am sure they have a belt that suits our purpose. But, just by glancing on the pictures, I cannot decide which one.
Any idea?

thanks

The Knight uses a 6mm wide 3M 1800 belt, which means it's a 3mm pitch, 1800mm pitch length. From Stock Drive Products it's this belt.

Based on rough measurements of my Knight, the belt is roughly 870mm long when installed (that makes sense, it would be about 900mm if stretched out and not wrapped around pulleys at both ends). Now you just need to back into the measurement for a belt of the right length to clear 470mm blades, and order one. The beauty part of doing a stretch yourself is since you're cutting the tailboom to length you can adjust it to fit the belt. That's what I did when I stretched my old Honey Bee King V2 to run 300mm blades.

Shouldn't be that hard! Install the blades, then measure to see how much additional tailboom length you need to clear the tail blades. Add that to the Atom belt length (or subtract it from the measurements of the Knight belt) and order one from Stock Drive Products.

How wide is the atom belt?

Is the atom belt a MXL pitch then? I would love to help. I have ordered many belts for stretches, I just will need more info.

Outrage 550 reduced tailboom length for 475mm blades.

It may be a GT2 3mm metric pitch belt as Chris stated. If it is you just need to find the length of the old belt in mm and add the amount that you want to lengthen it. The width is important too. If it is not a 6mm wide belt it may be hard to find one narrower.
It looks to be only available in 6mm or 9mm widths.

The Knight uses a 6mm wide 3M1800 (3mm pitch, 1800mm pitch length). The part number is CM-981800. If their part numbering conventions hold true, then the Atom's belt (CM-981263) is a 1263mm pitch length. Remember, that's circumference so it should be about 632mm long if you remove it and stretch it out. Add the length you need in mm, multiply times two, add to 1263 and buy a belt of that pitch pitch length and you're good to go!

so in theory if I want to swing 475 blades and I am using 430's now
I need to add 45mm to my tailboom
and add 90mm to 1263= for a belt length of 1353

but they don't have one that size.
it goes from a 1335 belt to a 1500 belt

based on belt sizes if we go in reverse
the 1500-1263=237
divide by 2= 118.5
so I have to add 118.5mm to the boom to use this belt.
if we add this much will we need boom supports now??

or
the 1335-1263= 72
divide by 2= 36
or add 36mm to use this belt
if we add this much will the 9mm that we are short cause us problems?

to go to 500mm blades I add 70mm to my boom
add 140mm to 1263= 1403
so the 1500 belt easily works but we are back to the boom brace question
and maybe even questioning the motor size now too....

I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

you could use boom supports from a trex 600,i am going to pull the scorpiom 4020 1100 out of my logo and see if it fits the atom,if it does i wll stretch to 550s,this setup works great in my logo 400 swinging 550s

now that i look at a set of 500s,there is another hurdle, the blade grips are too small for the root of my 500s.the blade has 12mm root and the grips are 10mm.475s fit perfect, looks like that may be as long as we can go
