Glad to hear that Peter. Damn, if is not one thing is another. Well, since HE made the mistake then HE should supply you with a new bell from Century.
What is the bell cost in the UK?
Tell him to get it from the US or Canada. You might have to wait a bit, but at least now you know where you going.

Glad to of helped.

Cheers M8

To be honest Peter I am probably a bit of a cynic, but I was having a look at my bell and I can not for the life of me see why it is a factory only job, if you can get the liner. And to be honest I had my "factory liner" given a slight go over to get it properly rounded.

.. a liner is a liner. Almost all glues soften with heat so the original will probably come out with a blast from a gas gun around the outside.. otherwise I'd be sorely tempted just to use raptor liner padded underneath if necessary and spliced as needed. Or down the dump for an old drum brake...

I know what you saying about replacing the bell but it was a favour job from a friend and not the first he’s done for me so it just wouldn’t feel right asking him to buy me a new one, he made a mistake and we can all do that

Neal
I’ve relined nearly every clutch that’s past through my hands at some point but this liner is triple the thickness and white in colour so I know I would have trouble matching it up.

PGK
Good idea with the heat gun I was thinking about soaking it in glue remover but I’m sure it would spoil the liner, I'll have a go with the heat but only when I’ve got another bell in my hands

Well it’s taken some motivation but I’ve got back into this conversion now and spent the day on it today, Last night I remembered I had a used HD clutch the PGK let me have some time ago so I was able to line everything thing up using that and now after a few amendments I’m ready to cut the final frames tomorrow if nothing ells crops up before hand

Your idea about the heat gun worked a treat pgk, came out clean as a whistle

The liner looks like the tube you get in a bog roll

Hi Tony
This liner is 1.5mm thick, green on the back and dirty white on the face, it’s a metallic compound said to last considerably longer than standard liners, sounds good but not if you have to buy a new bell when you have a hot start or incident, anyway we know it comes out easy so now I just need to find a suitable replacement just in case I need to reline it at a later date.

because its always a worry it might slip at some point.

I would go with a slip fit / light finger press and green loc-tite (cylindrical lock)

Threading aluminum with fine threads is so marginal anyways. A broached spline would have been a better choice. A spline would also have the advantage of making up for some misalignment which wouldn't hurt in this area.

I’ve used a sleeved made from a 600 bell and pressed it in a used Predator bell I had for now , I did use green loctite Ace but the sleeve was a tight fit, I’ve also fit two grub screws in the neck to help hold the sleeve in place.

I made a little progress on the 700 gasser today.

I’ve changed the frame design and made the second set of frames using the hand router and I think this time I’ve ironed out all the snags.

I’ve moved the elevator servo to the rear, dropped the receiver tray and cut down the top half of the frame to allow the 700 canopy to fit, it seemed a lot of work to save the 700 canopy but I had to make another set of frames anyway
I used the 600 fuel tank in the first build but it didn’t fit that well because of the frame spacing on the 700 so I’ve gone with the 700 tank this time, I also had to make a another start shaft because the Predater start shaft I'm using was 25mm too short, that last problem I had was my measuring error and after a trail build tonight the auto rotation gear was only just clearing the top of the bell, it was also meshing a bit low on the front tail drive gear so the main gear assembly needed moving up some how and I didn’t fancy making another set of frames so I turned the one way bearing top flange down to half its stock thickness and used two washers between the top bearing and main shaft collar and now its meshing perfect at the back and clears the bell by about 3mm.

Peter exactly how did you extend the start shaft?
I like your frame changes, can use canopy, maybe better balance

Hi Neal
I made another start shaft on the lathe out of a Raptor 90 feathering shaft, I’m not sure how long it would last if used for starting but this will only be driving a generator.

Ok thanks for that Peter,
Never even occurred to me to do something like that,I will go thru my bits and pieces sure I have something to do the job, same here just going to be running a genny,I take it a jewel is a good way to go?
Also your idea of moving the servo rearwards so as to use the original canopy, was a top piece of lateral thinking.I am going to use the frames I cut to check out tolerances, but after seeing what you have done,I am going to cut a new set of frames at the weekend,I like it that much.My hat off to you Peter

Hi Neal, I used the feathering shaft because it was a perfect fit in the one way bearing so that part would be ultra smooth as it needs too be and just leaving me to turn down the rest until it fit through the start shaft bearings.

It’s a good idea so cut the first frame set out in the rough fitting as little as possible and leave the rough edges wherever you can, you only need the main shaft tail assemble, clutch and pinion the rest can be done on the second or final cut.

The jewel is the only way to go I would say, I’ve had one a few years now and it’s still going strong after swapping it from model to model and crashing a few times, why risk another make when this on is well proven.

Neal leave the throttle servo hole also, I managed to fit it in the receiver tray now that it’s lower, pictures to follow.

Looks great !!

Don't forget the "safety nut" on the servo wheel in between the frames....4th pic. Hex nut is missing that secures the push rod ball screw on the top link....Might as well check all of them while you're at it...
