Zorba mentioned earlier it would be cool to make a copy of this set of frames out of Kevlar. Has anyone seen Kevlar in use lately? I haven't seen anything RC related made out of Kevlar since the mid 1990's. I think Kevlar was great stuff!!

I have to show my ignorance now because I’ve not heard of Kevlar

Fixit, once you get the prototype 700 conversion frames to work, I think you should try and sell copies of the frames made out of carbon fiber (or better yet Kevlar) to the rest of us.

I would love to do that but the problem is the price, an 800mm x 600mm 2.5mm carbon sheet is around £150 and even if you could get two sets out of it that makes them £75 per set plus cutting plus post to the buyer and not forgetting a little profit for me, I doubt if I would sell one set at that price.

At Last

Well it's been a long time waiting and seems like an eternity but the Century parts I've been waiting for turned up today so I can now get on with the 700 conversion, trouble now is I've been messing with planes to kill the time so I need to try and start thinking Heli's again

Hi Dana
I'm sure you’re right I'm just in the middle of building a wing set from scratch and that’s enough to put me of planes forever

Hi Peter, good to see you back. Glad you got your parts, leave that wing alone is addicting.
I changed my 600 head to 700 head. I machined a new 12mm shaft to fit the main gears on the 600.
Solid SS. Will see how it goes.
Cheers

What type of SS did you use,303 or 304 or 440c? I have thought of making my own shaft but i've been a little scared if it broke in spool up or flight. Did you grind your shaft or turn the whole thing?

Thanks for any help

Hi Smallplanes is in the machine shop right now. He is waiting for the 700 swashplate to get a perfect fit.
I think he uses the 304LN or the 440 not shure.
Once it get done I will post.
Is machined on a lathe from a new rod I just told him what is used for and he will do the rest..

Cheers

Unfortunately no, the predator bell has to be drilled out and taped (threaded) to take the 700 pinion, it might be less work and more accurate to re-tooth the predator pinion and adapt the clutch bearing housing to accept the predator pinion and I may look at that next time.

What if you left it alone and machined a Predator main gear to fit the hub of the Align hub. I don't know what the Align hub looks like so I don't know if it is possible.

Hi Neal
I’m not sure what you want to know but I have all the bit’s I need now plus the correct Tap to mach the Align pinion, one of are recent club members has a CNC workshop so I’ve asked him if he will thread the bell for me, I’m thinking he does it for a living so it should be as near perfect as possible, I will be seeing him tomorrow so I might have it back for the weekend all being well.
