The 20cc 600 has now gone and I was sad to see it go but it couldn’t have gone to a nicer chap and lets face it, I'd built it and flown it so now its time to move on and get my hands dirty again Happy Flying Dave.

Now I have the funds to spend on the 700 conversion its all systems go, I will be collecting some alloy sheet tomorrow so in a couple of days I should be well on the way with it.

I picked the Alloy up this lunchtime and I've been in the workshop and this is the end result.
I wanted to try the engine in the frames but those bloody Philips screws in the base are rock solid and typically I've run out of gas.

Hah, thats all you did since lunch?
Just kidding.
Looks good. I was wodering how much it will cost just to buy the parts needed to do the conversion instead of a complete 700 kit.
I'm just thinking out loud.

cheers

I thought about that but just look at the price of the one way bearing, main gear and the head setup it soon mounts up.

All of you that have experience with the G20 on these conversions, what are your feelings on the G20 engine?

I’ve had problems with the Philips screws in the Zenoah base before but this one was a nightmare
I now have the engine and base in place and I’m pretty much at a standstill until the other parts come, dam I hate to break off when things are going so well

Well the pull start can be a swine on the 20cc but I think using the Hanson Pull system might help it, apart from that I can’t really fault the 20cc, it has more power than I thought and was happy running between 11,000 and 12,000 RPM in the 600 but for me having to contend with another battery defeats what I was trying to achieve with a gasser.

Hi Bill
I can say i pretty much agree with Fixit , I'm just a sport pilot and the 600g with a G-20 had plenty of power for me , the only drawback was the two batteries for the system , i have read a few reports of people flying with a single battery and not having any trouble , and i have run a couple of systems that way ( on the bench ) , and it seemed fine

so i have been leaning more towards dropping the second battery and installing a rectified and regulated brushless setup for backup power

i don't like the stock EI unit that comes with the Zenoah , and have been ditching them for after market units that draw about a fith the power , cheers

Frames look good Pete.
Is that a 2mm alloy?
I wonder what the frames would be like if they are made out of Kevlar?
HHHMMMMMMM???????

Just thinking out loud..

Me too. I am hesitating whether to convert a Trex 600 using Zenoah G20EI or a Trex 700 using Zenoah G260RC until I have a clearer picture of how others do it. I already have both engines in hand pending air frames that I have to buy either new or used.

I am keeping track of this thread as well as others concerning the conversion.

Great job you all are doing. Keep it up.

Where will the center of gravity be? It looks a little nose heavy?

Good question Vince I hadn’t given that much thought but now its assembled its obvious everything on the 700 is up front so I might have to make this one a rear facing and copy the 600 servo layout.

I’ve just added the boom with tail box and without the tank in place its tail heavy so I think it will be fine, there’s plenty of room above the tank for the battery and the like should I need it.

Now that looks cool! Promise if it works you'll get those frames anodised and a Union flag canopy!

Thanks for the heads up pgk,
I would like to get the frames anodised if that’s possible but locally I think it would have to be stove enamel, what colour would you like with the Union Jack canopy, red blue or white?.

..as it goes was reading up on DIY anodising a few days ago.. worth a google search. Not so impractical. Staining the finish is another matter... to match the rest probably have to be black..or a tasteful canary yellow

Having done "Home Anodizing" ( I actually wrote an article published in Model Helicopter Technique a few yrs ago), I can tell you from personal experience that it would be impractical if you're going to just to do a set of frames.....There is a learning curve in order to to be successful at it and most people would not want to dedicate the time it would take to get it right.....
