Okay I received it on wednesday. I was very excited and still am. This little bugger is smaller then a Hirobo Shuttle. Just by an inch of short and from height. Came in without any broken pieces. The packaging was secured. Well anyways that same day, i put everything together, and installed all my electronics. Right now all it need is get the radio sorted out with the right settings and shorten the rod. Also yesturday I broke'in the motor but maybe it wasn't in a good way. I let it idle for couple tanks. Now it has I believe 5 tanks.
Anyway, here is my spec that I am using. I just used radio equipment that was lying around.

Jim Smartech Pegasus

Servos: 5 Jr Servo Nes-507 Standard servos
Radio: Spectrum Dx6i
Receiver: Spectrum AR6100e
Gyro: Zoom Head Lock & Standard with Dualrate.

Basically, nothing special there. And should fly great for a person like me
that is not into 3d. And this is great for someone wanting a smaller then a 30 to make enough room in the car to put a good size airplane in. I like how it is built. It is build nicely and some part is very strong. I like the head, especially the rotor head set. Very thick and super strong. Throughout the helicopter is welmade how much time do I have to say. Many people are getting small nitro now a day. Protech 450ic/ Helipro black hawk 500gp is very small compare to this. This quality how I see it, it is better then Protech 450ic/ Helipro black hawk 500gp. Here are some pictures for you guys. . I'll post more later.

Anyways I just maiden her. Had to add trim the the rudder. Well she flies great and has enough power for me LOL. Rotor blade is swinging fast in a hover. Telebee works on it, but i'm having an issue. So third tank i will adjust add more gain. But I did order a gyro last night which is a XMHobbies G401B HH gyro. I heard alot of great things about this gyro and heard its alot better then telebee hh. So I am waiting. Anybody out there with one of these pegasus?

Well guys. I'm going to order a balancer for my blade. Which one should I use for this kind of heli? I am getting some vibration but not as bad. The gyro is being a pain of an ass to get her dialed. I had that gyro running great well holding great on my Helipro black hawk 500 ep. Well I order a new gyro yesturday which is a XMHobbies G401B HH for very cheap. Theres alot of great feedback about this gyro so I did a dive. Today I went out and got my self a infrared thermometer and well i flew atleast 3 time when i got home. Engine is around 130's. Mmm temp doesn't sound right. That device is cheap and I paid like 10 something. So I dunno. So hey this helicopter is cool but pain of a butt to tune too. Anyways anybody have one of these pegasus 18?

usually the bigger the engine the more stable, and forgiving it is, so yeah a .18 will be a pain to tune, and very little fudge factor. I would recommend a gyro like the futaba Gy401, or even Gy240 along with a 9253 or 9254. Never heard of that gyro.

In general with electronics and RC 'you get what you pay for'

unfortunatly this is proven true more then not

There have been a bunch of guys trying out the G401B gyro with good things to say. It's definitely inexpensive, and so far seems to do what it's supposed to do...

Some guys consider it a challenge to get such a , um, what is the word I am looking for....oh...POS to fly, and by the looks of it, you are close.

Most such adventures end up in a crash/wreck right away, and it gets binned. BUt, your previous experience, will get you farther than that.

Good luck, keep it cheap, and stay with the challenge of not throwing a whole lot of money at that black hole.

Not a Pegasus, but same engine setup in a Protech 450 IC...

The Protech is classified as a 450, but it's a bit bigger. You can see it in the picture sitting between a Trex 450 and Raptor 30 for a size comparison. I've compared it to a Trex 500 as well and it's pretty much right in the middle in terms of size.

Yes, the OS 18 is tricky to tune when used in a heli. First it's an ABC engine, unlike the ringed engines built specifically for heli's, an ABC is a lot more sensitive to temperature variations, too much and you lose power quickly, not enough and it won't produce peak power. Other issue is that these engines rev a lot higher than what you normally see in a heli. The OS 50 in my Raptor Titan makes max power around 17,000 rpm, the OS 18 CVR in the Protech makes max power at 28,000 rpm, you cannot tune by sound as the 18 will always sound like it's over revving compared to what you hear from a ringed heli engine.

I find I have to intentionally run the engine on the rich side and use VERY conservative throttle curves to keep the engine from overspeeding, it can happen very quickly. If I remember right, idle-up 1 is set to run between 60 to 75% with the main needle set about 2 clicks too rich, anything with a higher curve limit or leaner setting will overspeed the engine every time the head unloads especially in breezy conditions when going from + to - pitch. It would be much easier if I could figure out a way to use a govenor or rev limiter, but take a look at the picture and you'll see it's all but impossible on the Protech. If you can fit one on the Pegasus, I'd highly recommend it, it will definitely help keep the engine running at a consistant RPM without having to tweak curves and needle settings.

That said, the Protech Zoom comes with an 12 size engine, I had to do a bit of machining on the OS 18 to make it work, but it transformed the little beast from a novelty into something you can actually fly with confidence when its running right. Best part is, a gallon of nitro will last for weeks with the little engine

As long as we are the sublect of mini-nitros....

I would love to see a norvel powered heli. I really like the Norvel-powered mini-planks.

But, a mini with a ringed motor is where I would go, if i were to venture in the genre.

So my question is then, what is the smallest ringed engine available?

As far as I know the ringed engines are all 30 size and up, I'd love to find something in the 20 size range, anyone know of such a beast?

Thank you, this is how mine fly. Since i'm using an old jr servo for tail. I am going to replace with a faster servo that is also digital. I'm leaning to Hyperion Atlas DS20-GMD Fully Programmable Digital Tail Servo

Specifications:
Speed: 0.07 sec/deg @ 4.8V; 0.05 sec/deg @ 6V
Dynamic Torque: 22 oz/in @ 4.8V, 28 oz/in @ 6V
Holding Torque: 44 oz/in @ 4.8V, 55 oz/in @ 6V
Gears: Metal
Weight: 49g
Dimensions: 40 x 19.5 x 37.8mm (1.57 x 0.77" x 1.48"

For $38.99

I will order that servo tomarrow. And I think tomarrow I will receive the xmhobbies digital gyro G401B from http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servle...ro-G401B/Detail So hope things go well and hope the combo work great.

smartech

I was wondering where you got your smartech Pegasus from? I had one when they first came out and had high expectations. I was disappointed due to the fact that the plastic balls had too much friction in the ball links and I crashed for that reason alone. Are they still using those balls or have they since gone to metal? Thanks in advance.

I got mine from www.pegasushelisusa.com. I have no issue with ball links. Maybe if you still have a pegasus, you can contact ron from pegasus helis usa, and order some ball links. My ball links are plastic but i have no issue. What i do have issue is, getting her flying good. The helis guys couldn't get her flying great. Also the bolt with a nut that holds up the carb on the motor is a weak spot. Also another weak spot is the pins that is on the pegasus. I simply added expoxy, can still take off the pin out with some work. Its easy anyways. Anyways i'm going to start all over again on the radio settings. I've been getting educated with my spektrum dx6i and my helipro black hawk 500 ep. But I am waiting on parts from ron. I tried to tight up that nut so carb wont move, but it end up stripping. I took it out so i can note where is half trottle which will help me on setting up the radio right. Let see if i can get her flying right and with power. But i don't think my pitch was wrong at first i think it was 10 but the guys at the field changed it and stuff. But in full trottle the engine bog. So I'm going to get her fine tune once i have the screw and nut that holds the carb from the motor. Also going to check all the screws. But if things go well, shes a keeper. She flies great when it was flyible. But stupid guy at the field kept ****ing around with it and well... The first person at the field did a better job, except the second dude mess with it. He is good on his heli. But first guy wouldn't help me so second tried helping. I hate when they both helis fly so damn good and mine just fly ****ty. Only if the second dude didn't mess with my heli. Since i'm learning since then on my helipro black hawk 500 ep, i know more what to do on the pitch curve and with my pitch guage.

WoW!!!!!!!!!!

Some REALLY INTERESTING info on this post about the Pegasus......
I have been flying these since the first batch was brought into the USA by PegasusHelisUSA and have had nothing but good luck with them.... and I really like that way they fly.... not a HOT ROD 3D machine by a long shot.... but 1 1/2 D is fully manageable.....
BUT, if you are not very familiar with nitro motors (small nitro motors!!!) then, I would imagine, it could be a bit intimidating....
Follow the tips and tricks that Ron includes in the box and you are almost guaranteed a great flying little heli.....
Actually Ron brought one to one of my fun flies when he first got them.... from the box to a hover in LESS THEN 2 HOURS and all it needed, if I recall correctly was about 1 turn of trim on the aileron linkage for a hands off hover.....
So for those that call it a POS..... if you haven't owned one or ever flown one, you are nothing more then an uneducated OPINION.... have fun with your xxx model.... but why knock one you don't know....
As far as things stripping and slipping, I have not run into this problem yet.... I own 3 of these and have built 3 more for others....
I know use them for an electric conversion for P&B and scale heli's... check my gallery and see my Scout and also the Blue and White Long ranger.. both electric and the Red and White is with the stock .18 in it.....
Not saying the heli is for everyone, but if you have some nitro time under you, and you are looking around for a fun small "cruiser", this is the heli that I recommend all the time....
Good Luck and if I can be of any help, feel free to contact me at anytime.... Stan
