Getting back to you,
I don't have a governer, I've installed a Spektrum AR-7100R. It has a limiter that uses a sensor installed 1mm away from the YS91SR crankcase base plate. No magnets or any of that stuff. All electronic. All I need to do is raise the gain on the TX, tach the head to get it at the desired head-speed and off I go.
I agree that a limiter or governor could mask proper tuning of the engine, however I only have two ways of doing this effectively, one is to raise the headspeed via throttle curves and work each needle to get to the right mixture value, or two use the limiter, set the headspeed for each needle value and set the mixture that way. Either method, should result in the same once the engine is fully broken in.
I did this exact method with my T-Rex600NSP with a TT53 and it resulted in a very stong running engine. Right now I'm chasing the ideal mixture setting, and until I get a stable headspeed to find out what each needle does, I wouldn't know how it affects the other neddle settings.
My plan is to stay somewhere in the 1500's once everything is broken in, assuming it's possible to attain that headspeed range.
The only big variable is that I have not yet received the Scott Gray F3C 720's. I'm using stiffer 3D 710mm from RT, so I don't know how that will play into this once they are on the bird.
TBD
