Hi Everyone,

I've just put up a builders blog for a new Blitz Avro I'm in the process of getting ready to build.

It's located here:

http://hdskullfire2.wordpress.com/build-blog/

To date, I've already begun the process of procuring everything I need to build. I've already purchased some of the avionics needed and I've already received an extra set of the canopy's, both front, rear, and the tail fins from Blitz in advance all of which were recently sent to Bill at "Arizona Heli" for a custom paint job.

I'm especially happy to report that the canopy F&R, and fins returned on February 27, 2009 and I'm very impressed with the finish! Thanks Bill!!

In the next few weeks, I will be ordering the kit directly from Blitz and my expectations are to have it flying by the end of March.

Please feel free to visit the blog and this RR post to keep up with my progress.

Thanks,

Steve,
Bethlehem, Pa.

Nice canopy, how do you install the canopy rear section do you have to take the boom out?

Lok,

Thanks on the paint comment.

Not sure how to install the rear yet, but it appears to go on first before the main canopy and it just covers the top and sides of the boom enough to give the appearance of full surrounding cover.

Very nice

The rear canopy clips over the boom and slides forward to locate on the rear canopy mounts. You get new rear canopy mounts. You only have to undo the tail servo pushrod rear ball link connection as the pushrod slides through the rear canopy.

Saw your build site and saw that you are planning to us 8717HV for throttle. Please dont use this servo for throttle. Not recommended, because its very high torque/speed. If you use that anyways, use metal arm on both side and tighten the arm on engine throttle, extremely tight by using a lock washer. Again, make sure its EXTREMELY tight fit. I know someone who had a very bad crash because of using 8717HV on throttle.

Bhushan

You will have fun building it. Just take ur time, don't hurry. Did u order the spektrum mount? its extra money and its awesome.

Don't do the mistake I did....use ball link sizing tool. The links are special and I had to replace all my links for the same reason.

Amanda and Neal are awesome, when it comes to cst service.

Helipulse

Thanks Helipulse,

Yes I ordered the RX mount and also the CarbSmart servo bracket. Did I read this wrong???? Did you have a problem as a result of using a ball sizing tool?.

Really looking forward to this build..

My Bltz Avro has entered the building!!!

Great news to report!

After much anticipation, my Blitz Avro kit has arrived!!! Following a short 14 hour international flight from London via air & ground (wish I could do that kinda flight!) and finally a UPS ride to my home.

I will tell you this much....it was worth the wait!

Kudos to Neal & Amanda. The packaging alone is astonishing, and clearly shows the pride they take in this product. Neal & Amanda sure know to pack heli kits!!!

OK, now I only have a little time to drool over the packaged parts....

It's time to build!!!!

Here are a few shots of the kit and packaging. Build shots will be posted as I get underway and start making progress. Some will be here at RR, the rest will be on my build site.

Enjoy, I will keep you all up to date..

Congrats. You will enjoy the build.

These are my recommendations:

Stay away from ball link sizing tool. The links are suppose to be very tight, but they will seat correctly after a few flight.

After the frames are put together, jump directly to servo installation section. The empty frames will give your hands and tools enough room to make servo installation very easy and plus you can neatly organize the wires.

Goodluck in ur built. Very easy and straight forward.

see pics here, so you will know what I am talking about.

Build Progress - 03/19/09

Hi Everyone...

The kit build has gotten underway and I've completed sections 1-1 through 11-2 so far.

Really nice kit. Manual is one of the best I've ever seen. Fit and finish on every part that I've handled so far is like what you could expect if you were building a "Bentley". Top marks all around.

Here is a shot of what I've completed today.

I've posted more on my build page. Feel free to browse.

It can be found here:

http://hdskullfire2.wordpress.com/build-blog/

More to follow.

Build Progress - 03/20/09

Hi Everyone...

As of today I've now completed sections 12-1 through 18-2, mounted the engine, fan shroud, adjusted all the belts, gears mesh, and made sure the shroud is clear. I also put together the Quick UK Header Tank, and did a test mounting on the side of the engine mount. How nice of Blitz to tap and drill a 3mm hole just in case someone wants a future header tank on board.

I must say things go together so smoothly on this kit its just downright hard to stop for a minute and just look at it and admire my progress!

I am happy to report I picked up my 8717HV's (x4) today and they are pretty sharp looking servos. I also received my RotorTech main blades and paddles.

So for now, here are two progress shots of what I've completed today.

I will continue to post progress photos on my build page. Feel free to go over there and browse around.

My build site can be found here:

Stay tuned, more to follow.

Helipulse,

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. As you know I've been a bit busy the last few days with this kit build.

Thanks for the info on how to handle the ball links. When I get to that point I will take a look at things and see exactly how tight they are. If they are suppose to be somewhat tight I will watch them to see if they do seat correctly after one or two flights.

I just completed the canopy mounts and test mounted the F&R canopies. Real nice fit.

Next, I'm going to build the head and then go directly to the servos.

I see what you mean about tight quarters. I also plan to tidy up the wires while I have the room.

I was going to ask you how you mounted the Quick UK landing gear, but I looked at your pictures and figured it out. I will be going the same route. Since I have the white Blitz gear, I will be cutting those to be able to mount the new white Quick UK ones.

Thanks for the comments, Yours looks great.

hdskullfire2,

The links will be very tight. I have 9 flight on my avro and now the links are getting loose and a very nice fit. They will be extremely tight and keep them that way. when you go fly the first time, you will notice some additional interactions with input, those will be normal because of the tight links. These interaction will go away with just 2-3 flights. I love the quick UK landing skids.

Build Progress Weekend Update - 03/22/09

Hi Everyone...

Things continue to move along very smoothly with the build so far.

Following a fairly nice weekend here in the northeast US, I got a chance to get out flying with few friends which gave me an opportunity to take a short break from the Avro build. However, I was able to complete sections 19-1 through 28-1 which got me through the first phase of the head assembly and the F&R canopy mounts.

This Heli is one nice piece of hardware!!

Also nice was the way Blitz setup the Flybar/Mixing arm link assembly. The very short studding is manufactured with a hex socket on one end to allow driving of the stud into the ball link with ease.

Next steps will include assembly of the torque-tube and tail.

So for now, here is a progress shot of what I've completed this weekend.

Other progress photos can be found on my build page. Feel free to go over there and browse around.

Hey Steve,

Build looks very impressive so far - the quality comments you make are really positive speaking as a Brit! Have you built any MA helis to compare to in quality terms?

When you get as far as getting the Swash plate on and the head mounted etc, it would be really good to see all the linkages up close and see how much is perpendicular and true at 0. This is something I've always admired in the MA helis as all their linkages are neat - the Hirobo Freya always looks a little odd to me due to the angle on one of the linkages.

Cheers

Chris
