Maybe this will be the end of the exploration. I do need to pack it all up to get it out to CA tomorrow for Wednesday.

This trip is not done guys, so don't give up on it. I am going to ask Josef to take pictures of the rebuild and so forth to keep it going, it would just be a different person doing the work. This is not over till that bird is in the air, so there is still a lot more work to do other than the Turbine.

I'm curious as to why you would not send it back to JetCat USA (ie. Bob Wilcox?) Have you done a search on here about people's previous dealings with Josef and air star?

My first phone call was to Josef for these reasons. 1. The previous owner had dealt with several times and he has had 3 ships bought from Josef. 2. another friend deals with him as a client for his items and suggested that as well. 3. Josef was my first call going through the chain as he is a dealer of sorts since he gets the turbine kits and includes them with his airframe kits when you order them. 4. and most importantly I had a great discussion with Josef and he listed to my goals for this project and presented several options that were not heavy on the wallet. Which I think is important to me and others. Not all of us are made of money or need to be to really enjoy all aspects of this hobby and I think Josef understands that, I really got a Henry Ford type vibe from him and that is why it is going back to him rather than JetCatUSA.

Well that's fine, it's your turbine. However I still think you owe it to yourself to do a search, cause I can assure you that there are plenty of Vario customers on here that didn't get a "Henry Ford" vibe from doing business with him! Anyway good luck with your project. This is a very interesting thread, and it's cool to see the inside of one of those things..

That's funny you say that, because I only see about 3 or 4 of the same names popping up complaining. I am going to search some more now and see how many total out of what 500+ jetcopters and 1000+ turbines. I think that is pretty good that possibly there are 996 very happy ones out there.

Hmmm... yeah. I suppose that's why he is no longer the Vario distributor for the US then? Cause the same 3 or 4 people complained? Yeah, not so much.. Anyway, this is your thread and your turbine send it to who ever you want to. I just thought you should be aware in case you were new. Apparently you are aware so as I stated before good luck.

I would have sent the turbine back to Jetcat USA and have Bob repair it.You might have saved some time in doing this by the way the turbine looked in the pictures.Joesf may have to send it there anyway.Good Luck

I know that Air Star International has been doing business with Jetcat USA for a very long time . I know now they are the biggest distributor of jetcat USA turbines in the world. Even with this economy jetcat is doing very well. What i wanted to mention is that my Jetcat is fairly new but when ever my friends, send there jetcats, in for normal maintenance, straight to Jetcat USA , in comparison to when they go through Josef, at Air Star International there turbines come back quicker im not sure why . But what matters is getting it there

As we all know this forum, or should I say this section of this forum can get very political. This is because there are people out there that want 'your' money, and I don't just mean your money blt4ice, I mean they want our money. Now some of these people are honest and fair and charge a fair price for a good job, and some people and even manufacters are just out for what they can get.
Now the good things about forums is that folks generally want to see there fellow man get on and do well. This means that they will warn you off bad traders and the like.
However, the thing also to be aware of is that fiction can become fact very quickly on a forum. All you need is someone with influence and an adgenda saying the wrong thing a few key people and before you know it, everybody is believing it. It's a strange thing to watch because you start to see what's basically a lie spread around by honest poeple who think they are telling the truth. Wow what a great way to spread myth! Now there are some people, and they can be manufacterers or endusers who like myth busting! They want to see fairness and evenhandedness, and it's these folks that often become targets for ridicule, rumor and even blatent lies orchestrated by the people at the top.
This whole Jet scene has been shrouded in mystery for too long, and it's been kept going because of MONEY! If you work on peoples fears, you get to take their money off them, easy as anything!
Fear is a great way to get people to part with hard earned!
Mystery and a closed shop policy is another way to secure it.

So what about this Air Star bloke, is he a GOOD GUY or a BAD EGG?
He might be one of those 'revolutionaries' who has upset 'the establishment' by being strait talking and fair.
OR
He might be out to just get your money and give you little in return.

There's an old saying:
'Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.'
Well if we all took that advice we'd be in trouble, however these are wise words too.

I think you need to chat to this Air Star guy, take on board what folks have said, then you are then going in eyes open. Maybe even challenge him about things you have heard but don't grill him.
The worst thing about a lie behind your back is that you can't defend yourself against it.
So let him tell you his side.... he might not even know what's being said about him.
Then you make your judgment.
He might turn out to be the most honest helpfull guy you ever met
OR well......the other.
Forewarned is forearmed.

Good luck, Bell Bloke.

I personally spoke with Joseph, we both went through all the pictures on this thread. He identified which items that he may be able to salvage rather than have to fully replace. We spoke about a budget and both of us believe I can come under that amount. I feel that I am in good hands and I am going to talk to him today when my box gets to his shop at around 10:30 a.m. PST. I really want pictures so I hope he will agree with taking photos of the process that he goes through.

I must admit that if I were in your shoes I would give this guy a chance. A couple of things you say he has said ring true to me, and his willingness to help does him credit. He should be able as a professional to stick to his costs, give or take a bit, as he cannot be exact. But I would say, part with no cash until you are happy and you have seen it working properly. These things can be bench run with no problem at all, so there can be no excuse not to run it. If you don't believe me just look in Matts Zealous thread where you will see me running the Wren engine in my hand!
Good luck and keep us posted.

Okay back to business, the box of my Mechanics, Head Assembly, Turbine, and Electronics has arrived at air star today. Josef is already at work, I just got these pictures of the progress on the mechanics so far.

Mechanics as they arived at the shop.

Left side shot of the belt...not looking good.

Closeup of the belt, really looking bad.

Clutch disassembled, not too bad.

Right side of the frame removed, not looking too bad, starter motor is shot it seems the shaft is bent.

Yup I like the detail, Most of it will be a clean and regrease job. The ECU I was worried about, but that burn you see is just residue and the rip of the heatshrink is all the damage really. Now the starter box hehe you haven't seen that puppy yet, lets just say marshmallow
