Hi,
I just joined runryder and would like advice in regards to which aircraft to begin "flying" or should I say..."crashing"
By the way: I'm so glad that women get their own forum here at runryder.
Thank you

I'm looking for something not too expensive, approx: $150 max. I would like to fly in an open area, like a park.

well the best 150 will get you is this mcx it flies nicely indoors and is very easy to fly however it is not very capable. it will not go more than 5mph.

the closest thing better than that would be about $300 and hard to fly.

I don't know how much you know about helis but they do tend to be expensive, I have $2500 in mine.

Thank you for your recommendation. I want to start with something I can call my "starter". Once I learn more about this hobby I'll look into investing a little more. I will check the link that you provided on your last post. thanks!

I would recommend an Axe ez. They are stable and slow; helpful for a beginner. At a beginner level the last thing you want is heli that will flip and roll easily...

that mcx is a great co-axial heli that will get you started and get the brain to remember the different stick movements. It takes awhile for the brain to react and you want to make sure you know exactly what your doing without thinking about it. It will make flying more enjoyable, especially when you start getting bigger birds. Welcome to an addicting hobby.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

I would like to second that bit of advice. It will fly outside. It is a handful, but... repairs are as cheap as they get in this hobby.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but..... this hobby is $$$$$$$$.

And it is addicting.

Have you thought about getting a sim? You should be able to pick up a sim for around $150 to $200.

Trust me, a sim will save you money.

Just something to thing about.

yep^ if you are really interested in flying helis and not wallmart toys then a simulator would be a great investment.

Thank you all for your expert opinions and advice. I have tried the simulator before and that alone was addicting. In regards to the expense of this hobby....Yeah...I've heard from many RC heli pilots that this hobby is expensive but worth it! I just want to have something to do for fun on my off days from school that actually involves using your brain. I will soon let you guys know how I do on my 1st try at this new hobby.

I'm going to research the mcx and the Axe EZ online this weekend and by Monday I should have made up my mind. Do I need to start buying any parts too? Or just wait until I crash?

Hi,

I would look at the blade mcx. I fly a variety of larger birds, mostly Trex's. I have a mcx for flying in the winter and I really love this little bird.

I agree with an earlier post, the mcx and other stable coaxial birds will allow you to learn orientation and some of the basics. A simulator is also a must before you get into the 500.00+ level.

Cheers, and welcome aboard,
leslie

as long as yo are carefull you should not have any problems it is very durable.

another reason I recomend the mcx is because it coms from horizonhobb. so it is backed by the best customer support in the world.

if you are going into this, ( as most of us do ), with a serious intrest, protect your initial investments by getting a good p.c. simulator. time spent on a sim is less money spent on repair parts. the ratio is proportional.

You're right! Over the weekend I went on a simulator and once I crashed I just pressed the reset button. It was fun...but so addicting.
By the way...
In a few days I'm getting an Axe ez (It's a gift from my boyfriend )and he offered to help me fix it! I'm so lucky!

if I had it to do all over again...I would start off with a 500 size helicopter....I know that is way above the $150 dollar budget, but it is an inexpensive heli to repair (comparatively) and it is very stable and easy to fly...much easier than a 400 or 450 .... i bought evry heli known, almost, and I found that the cheaper/ smaller ones were more difficult to fly and just a s expensive to repair....thats my two cents...
