Actually you do not have to, and should not, run the belt tight as its toothed design will be hard to make slip...and if you run too tight you will rob power and cause the pulleys to heat and wear out quickly.

Your going to love the Swift...batteries - I use FP and TP, but I am tempted to try some Zippys, as they are much lower in price and seem to be getting some good reviews.

The one thing you left out was what pinion you are running and the type of flying you want to acheive. I have the same motor as you with a 9 and a 10 tooth pinion. I am new to Swift also and wanted to do mild sport and eventually EZ 3D. I just purchased the following batteries and researched the heck on the Net to find the cheapest prices...

Thunderpower Extreme V2 6SP1 3850mAH 25C - $179 @ Heli-World

FlightPower EVO25 5SP1 5000mAH 25C - $179 @ GrandRC

Zippy FlightMax 5SP1 5000mAH 25C - $86 @ Hobby City (temporarily out of stock)

I plan to do a comparison between the FlightPower and the Zippy and see which ones I will go with for the long term. Another LiPo brand that is cheaper than TP and FP and getting a lot of recognition is Outrage. Kyle at RC Super Store has the best deal on these.

PS - FlightPower is getting rid of the EVO25 line so some vendors have good deals out there right now.

pinon

it has the 9 tooth pinon. the 6 cell battery i have looks great, its a flightppower 3700 it not puffed but starts out with good head speed then quikly goes way down it will fly a while at the lower head speed just not alot of fun i only do loops and rolls and a little nose in inverted fast forward flight flips and thats about it. Is that a new FlightPower battery?

I have three that each now have 58 to 76 charges, and with the 600+/9T and 530mm C/F blades, I will get a relatively consistant 2070 head speed through about 4.5 to 5 minutes. With rather lively 3D performance.

Here is how to calculate the head speed at 100% ESC setting:

Step #1 Calculate motor rpm

KV of motor x voltage of pack (a 6S pack under load gives about 22.1 Volts) and your 600+ motor has a KV of 1110 and a 90% efficiency rating. So you motor at 100% ESC setting would be 1110 x 22.1 = 24531 rpm

Step #2 Calculate motor speed relative to efficiency rating:

RPM x efficiency: 24.531 x .9 = 22078

Step #3 Calculate gear ratio:

# of Main gear teeth (96 for the Swift) divided by the # teeth on pinion. 96/9 = 10.67

a 10T pinion would be 96/10 = 9.6

Step #4 - Calulate rotor speed

Divide the motor rpm by the gear ratio so for a 9T pinion you would have 22078/10.67 = 2069 and for a 10T pinion you would have a higher rotor speed of 22078/9.6 = 2300

Of note, is that the higher the head speed, the higher will be the current draw (the shorter the flight on the same battery). A good rule of thumb is that a 10% increase in rotor speed will mean a 30% increase in current draw.

It will fly OK with 20 cell NiMh cells, as long as they are of adequate capacity (e.g.3000mah) but due to the added weight, not near as well.

This bird can handle weight with no issues, the only thing I would worry about would be the 60A ESC limitation.

By using a watts meter, I have come across 40 amps max usage scale flying while aggresive acro demands amps in the 80's and if not carefull with throtle-pitch programming something may smoke.

I dont know the max amp rating on that 600+ motor.

I try to keep mine around 1800W max.

Gone to fly...best of luck!

P.S.
Im using the new beefed up landing struts...they are indeed beefy.

I just received a Swift with a Jeti 70 ESC and (2) A123 6S packs. I'm not sure what pinion is on it now. Would I be able to run thes two packs in series as a 12S? They came in MEC solderless "power tubes" with Deans ultra connectors but no balance connector.

Your motor and ESC will set your limits.

What are the amp ratings on ESC & Motor?

Just a warning on 8 T pinions..... I have broken 3 pinions with resulting damage to the main gear each time. There isn't enough metal left after machining to give much strength. If you are not pushing the heli hard , I was, then your mileage may differ. I was running the 600+ and 6S packs with 530 to 550 blades. You would probably get more longevity on 520 woodies and/or less cells.

Alan

Should've bought a sim. Got a bucket of used blades!

I agree with aramsdell - don't consider the 8T pinion, specially on a high power (22.2V) or higher battery pack.

flew it yesterday

flew my swift around yesterday man does it fly nice.its been too windy and cold till now. you need to hold on to your seat for the 4 minute flight. this baby will roll like a lightning bolt.all i need now is some more batterys. the blades really talk also. hart to believe more people dont fly them for the cheap price to repair. the only downfall is the battery cost Ron
