Problem Solved!

I think I solved the problem. I pm'd Corrado and he said not to lube the pinion one-way at all, so I took it out ( I had tri-flowed it previously) and cleaned it well with a degreaser, re-installed it and bingo, problem solved!

We'll see how it holds up in flight in the next few days. I would have never believed that was it, because you really can't hear the motor slipping. I thought it was the ECS, receiver, etc., but two different helis did the same thing.

So if you think it might be your ESC it's probably the Pinion slipping.

However when I cleaned the pinion one-way it became draggy and of course this affects auto performance quite a bit. It may loosen up overtime however, but I really don't like the setup.

damn i'm so pissed of at this esc.

at first it always dropped the setup whenever i forgot to flip the throttle hold switch, then it dropped just without a reason. today it made some weird noises after turning on properly. now you can't even reprogram it anymore with the setup card and now it doesn't beep anymore...

why can't it just work as a plain esc ? wasn't even using that crappy gov mode.

Sounds like you are getting a static hit. You have the boom grounded to the frame?

Are you still having trouble with it? Bring it out Sunday afternoon and we will see if we can figure it out.

I'm getting the same result on my Protos... And it's a CC 80 esc! Have tried the static mod, just did not lube the belt. Is it the motor?

I had exactly the same problem with my Protos with a stock msh motor & esc, I did lots of auto's with this heli with very few flights !! Really annoying !!!! also swapped motors & esc’s with no results.

It turned out to be static, I'd already grounded the tail boom & bottom bearing to the motor mount but the two tail supports are also nicely insulated from the rest of the heli giving a different potential for static to arch between causing my receiver to dropout to the failsafes with zero throttle.

I sanded the paint off the tail boom under the horizontal fin clamped a piece of stranded wire under the fin clamp, sanded the ends of the carbon supports and wrapped the wire around the support and secured with heat shrink and it now works perfectly with no belt lube, over 15 flights without any problems

Get yourself a multimeter and make sure the heli conducts throughout and will be at one potential in the air, also ensure the roller in the tail case is free rolling - this can also cause static !!

Hope this helps, it's a nice heli when you can keep it in the air - just getting my confidence back with mine now

Cheers

Matt
