I think I want a Trex 600. I have been flying the 450 for awhile now and am ready for something bigger.

I would like to know the best Electric Trex 6000 machine combo to get and where and the various electric components I would need.

I already have the DX7 and the Hyperion 6s charger.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on RR so I would be opposed to buying a a used machine, but I want to know what the standard equipment is.

What else do I need? Please provide the estimated cost for each item.

1. RX - AR7000 - $99
2. Gyro - GY401 - $140

Also, what spares to you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I was considering one also, but after some research everyone was telling me steer clear of the 600E. Reason being you have to run 8S or 10S lipos in order for it to perform like a nitro. Everyone has been reccomending the Outrage 550, which can run very well on 6S lipos. Check them out.

i use the 6s on my 600, i dont do a lot so i guess depends on what your going to do w/it. Guess if your 3d'ing a lot, you would need it. Ill have to try a 8 and see what it gives me.

600

401 gyro with servo 9253 or 9254
BEC
three matched cyclic servos
75 amp or greater speed control
6 cell batteries (4200 - 5000 mah)
7.4 lip (1300 - 1900 mAH) to run your receiver and servos

Order you a good airframe off of run ryder and then put it together buying the used parts you need. I've done three nice ones like this and its about half the price of new.

Do what has to be done

The 600e is fine on 6S for general sports flying and mild 3d such as inverted and backwards flying. If you are going to perform amp sapping tick tocks etc.. then an 8s set up would be needed.

It's worth getting dampers and thrust bearings that are found in the head as these can wear out. The swash plate also can wear out. Mine did after 70 flights. I upgraded to a quick UK part and have had no problems.

Have you thought of a 500, you can still use your 450 packs?

+1 for the 500. I've seen this thing in action and it definately gets my vote and it doesn't cost nearly as much to equip like its big brother 600E. If you want to go something that big, try concidering the 600N. It rocks! Also, take a look at the Align servos if you want the best bang for your buck. They are lightening quick for those demanding 3D manuevers.

Been flying a 600 esp on 6s with stock motor 100 amp esc and it does just as well as my nitros. 9252's on the cyclic, 401gy, and 9254 on tail. You can find a lot of places that will do a complete combo for you that include a battery, servos, gyro yada yada. For a capable 600 machine you are looking at 1100 bottom line. Or get lucky and find someone who lost their job and is bailing out and selling dirt cheap. If you get the 500 you will want the 600 trust me.

+1 on the 500 for a larger electric machine. The 500 flys much "bigger" than what it is. I love that machine not only for its flight characteristics and overall 3D performance, but also because in the event of a crash, it's not terribly expensive to repair. I don't think you can go wrong adding one (either an Align 500 or an Outrage 550) to your fleet.

Personally, I feel that anything in a 600 size and up in electric is a money pit. You have to invest a large sum of $$ in batteries that still only give you 4-6 min. of flight time. By the time you get up and want to spend any time practicing, you're done and need to land to replace your pack. Also the 600 is going to cost more in the event of a crash. Most guys that I know that have owned a 600E, have sold them... replaced them with 500-sized electric machines and/or moved into nitro machines in the 600 class. My Beam and 500 are my electric machines and anything in that 50-size and up is nitro for me. Just makes more sense to spend more time flying and without having to invest in many lipos that you spend more time charging than you do flying. Just my opinion.

You guys really need to do your research before making statements like that
First of all to make a 50 size electric feel like a nitro 50, you have to tune it down which will give you the 8 minute flights you want. A good electric setup (stock Trex 600 included) will be way more powerful than an .50 sized nitro...I own both...I am talking from experience.
Now you can get good 6s 5000 lipos for around $100 and they are able to be charged at 2-3c which translates into 30 minute recharge times. Hyperion is going to release a charger that is capable of 5c recharging so back to back flying with electrics is on the near horizon.
I say choose to fly what you want you just have to deal with the good and bad of each choice...........Ron

Ron,

Sorry to make you feel like we (or I) didn't do my research. My comments were preceeded by "Personally, I feel... ", as to not try to influence anyone by my personal opinion over facts.

As we all know, battery technology is continuing to improve at a very rapid pace and in due time, I feel will overcome the negatives of nitro and be a cost-efficient, clean way for everything in this world to work.

As for my comment... I feel that way simply because of those that I have known that have (or had) the larger electric machines and they have sold them due to expense invested in batteries that were unfortunately not holding up over time. I personally own my 450 class and 500 class machines... obviously both electric. I get about 4-4:30 out of any pack, rather it be a 3S or 6S. I, personally, do not like to tune down any of my machines just so I can gain flight time at the expense of performance. High head speeds, along with aggressive 3D flying will deplete a pack quickly no matter what.

All-in-all, it is a matter of preference as to if you prefer nitro or electric and both have their strengths and weaknesses. I have both and can share in the fun of how each play their role in this ever-evolving hobby.

Thanks for your input Ron and happy flyings!

When someone asks "what should I buy" they are looking for both facts and opinions. They can be swayed by both...that is the nature of these forums
I was speaking from my personal experIence also when I said what I did. I also have experienced when people say batteries are not "holding up" it usually is from them buying cheap batteries, the wrong batteries for the heli (Trex 600 on 6s with 15-20c packs), or just plain abuse (over discharge, unbalanced charging, crashing etc).
It is impossible for you to know how they treated the lipos every cycle so to say they didn't hold up without an explanation of why they failed is unjust.
I just want the OP to get objective facts and opinions so that they can make an informed decision..........Ron

Gotta say I was just in his shoes. I really dont like people who really post negativly and without any kind of support but thats the internet dont believe 100% of what people say.

I started out on a blade 400 in november and in january I got a trex 600 after a friend was getting one. The Electric was definatly the way to go.. I already had chargers and knew how to program the electronics. A Trex 600 Was really the best choice. Especially if your transitioning from a 450 sized machine. I get about 6 min flights. I bought the 100$ 6s 5000 flightmax 25C Zippy packs. Works wonderfully. The thing about getting a 500 is, and mind you I have flown them before as well. 500 just isnt quite as big as a 600 sized. The 600 just seemed to slow down maneuvers. Makes it easier. It really makes it nice to be able to see it.
my 600 (i got used half price)
Trex 600e
9252's on cyclic (dont get expensive servos mid grade is good 90$ or less)
9254 / GY401 tail.
600XL motor
align 75A ESC
Zippy 5000 6s 25C packs (get 25C or 30C only)
I use a CC BEC ( some say it pushes it but it works) Align regulator/BEC is good as well and usually comes with them.

+1 in inertia and stablity. 600E is a great heli, don't let anyone tell you different.

700E is the BEST, but...
