If you look at the drawing and then Georges imposed picture of the zealous there is a height difference...

but it maybe so small it is not worth making a lot of work...

George as said, will send me the measurements...

Thanks Bell

hi matt

the zealous in rotor george fuz will be real cool and as he has scaled most of his fuz it will leave little work other than paint and put the mechanics in,you have chosen a good fuz to use be good to see it when it arrives

regards
paul

Gearbox?

Hi Matt,

Is this gearbox a one-off, or is it supplied off the shelf by anyone? It's a nice compace unit.

James.

Hi James,

It is supplied by rotortec, who make the zealous, it comes with the kit, as photos below.

I sent mine off to Wren to have the interstage and scale exhaust fitted, I also asked for them to service the gear box as it had done 200hrs which i knew about when i bought it.

Wren serviced it and cleaned it up for me and sent it back within a week, i then fitted the turbine to it which i also built.

it is a nice design and very scale like.

Matt

Thanks Matt,

Wonder if they will supply g/box only.

What are you doing regarding governing head speed? are you just using good old fashioned pitch / throttle curves to prevent over speed? I fitted the Vario head speed LED for a visual check to help me set up the curves on my XLV. seemed to work fine....

Hi Again James,

I would ask them, in the current climate i doubt anyone would miss a sale..

as to head Speed, I used an optical taco, mounted to the boom, and i set up my throttle curve based on that.

Having flown both types of turbine i have found this more accurate, i fluctuate within 30rpm as i pump the power..

When i flew with Bell Bloke who helped me out a lot,
he mounted a camera also on the boom, and it videod the taco, so as he went round in a circuit and pumped it and did fast power climbouts it recorded what the head speed was, this proved to be very helpful to me when learning how to setup one up.

But now i can do it by ear as i have got used to the turbine sound.. And as said it is very accurate.

i like your idea of a visual display, will have a look at your gallery, i must say i like your machine, really nice setup..

maybe next year at the scottish nationals i'll see you.

Matt,

Any idea what the reduction ratio is on the gearbox alone, as a matter of interest?

Thanks for the comment on my XLV, I was planning to put the mechanics into a Jet Ranger fuse and build some benzin mechanics up for the XLV (using the std frames I have left over after buying the Hobby Parts kit).

I have to agree with that Matt. I love the landing gear and the fuel tank fittings. Nice work James.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...
