Well, i have an interest in building some kind of remote operated vehicle(not sure what yet) and was wonder what sort of technology most use to control things remotely(beyond 2.4 and 72 range)
Is there any systems out there for retail to do such a task?

Im a total noob at this sort of stuff.

B.C......

Are ya' looking to run 3 ki's of BC Hydro down to Seattle or somthin?

How far do you want to transmit? Do you want a video feed from an autonomous rig, flying waypoints?

Do tell; you've got options.......

Microhard has a few serial radio modems, as well as IP-based modems:

So does Maxstream (AKA Digi):

Enjoy,

I prefer the Maxstream (Digi) stuff. Microhards can be tempermental when it comes to link up and order of operations.

What about video? I don't think the MaxStream/Digi stuff could transmit video too.

No, radio modems don't have the bandwidth for video. You would need a broadband wireless link, such as 802.11N, 802.15, or OFDM.

Analog video transmitters are controlled by the FCC in the states. I think the max allowed by the FCC is 1W for 2.4 and 500mW for 900, unless you get a license. 900 transmitters do get you better range, but obviously that won't work if your radio is also 900, even if it's Spread Spectrum.

Professional and OEM UAV systems use high power analog transmitters around 2-5W in the L-band, but these units are restricted to government use.

Your best bet is a 1 watt 2.4Ghz system, provided you aren't using 2.4 RC system too.
