DS620 or DS610 on 8 volts

Just posting to see if anyone has run the Align DS620 or DS610 on 8v? How do they perform? Any problems, failures?

Thanks,
Cameron

I would guess that running them on 8.0 volts will let the magic smoke out and cause a great wailing and gnashing of teeth...

From the Align website, and the specs for the DS610:
Rating voltage: DC 4.8-6V
I'd think that two volts greater than max rating would be asking for trouble.

Same with 8717s. No where does it say that will take 8v.

Here is what a JR rep told me at the AMA Expo. " there have been some 8717s frying from to much voltage and they will not honor warranty if it is caused by overpowering. He also said it was very easy to tell if it was over powered".

The 8717HV is rated for High Voltage. The Align is not. It may not fry tommorrow or the next day, but it will someday. Why risk it with a $2300usd Heli.. Just MHO for what its worth

I am going to try it out anyway with the ds620. Should give a similar performance to my 8717s on my 700.

You might wnna reconsider not to....... There's a testing they did in HF, when 620 seize functioning after a while running 8V..... Maybe regulated 7.2...... But I don't think you will notice or feel any difference in flight...... I did some experimenting sometime ago, running 2S direct, although on a different servo..... Looks good on the bench...... No noticeable improvemnt in flight..... 620 have plenty enough speed and torq to take whatever you throw at it..... I have them on my 600N......

Well I flew the DS620s in my 600 this weekend on 6v and they were much faster than my old 9252s. They felt very similar to my 8717s on my 700 that are on 8v. I will soon get a new rx so I can run them on 8v and will update.

Here's my 620 after only 3 tanks at 5.8 volts!

As a special treat, I've discovered a new smell that I won't soon forget either!!!

In my opinion not only should you NOT run these at 8 volts, you should remove any and all you own and throw them in a fireplace!

POS!!!

This one's gone back to the retailer and is being replaced with a Futaba 9256 (and step-down reg).

Thats weird. I flew hard 3d on mine today for two flights and felt all of them and they were not warm at all. They felt fine.

Alan Szabo jr posted on the other site about DS610's on 2S lipo. He said he had 100+ flights w/out problems on the Align DS610's. Said he never tied the 620's(on cyclic-only on tail) as the 610's were plenty fast and had more torque.

The servo torture that was done at HF was done with a servo tester that was abusing the servo with some insane rate of movement. He got the case temp to >90C prior to it failing. The servo would have failed at 6v as well given that rate of work and eventual temps.

That said, I feel more comfortable running a straight 2S A123 Rx pack versus a 2S lipo as 7.2v versus 8.4v is quite a bit of difference, and heck I suck at flying anyway so more speed isn't going to help me now.
