By the looks of things most clubs enjoy the waist high tables wither permanent or the one that can be moved. I like the smaller tables outside. Alot have some sort of fence area separating the flightline and pit area. Any more photos?

Agreed, waist high tables and some sort of a cover is good.

Here are a few photos.

our local club has waist high tables for both helis (square) and planes (shape of a t) with wheels on the bottom. That way one guy can move them around if he needs to. It also helps when one guy goes out to mow.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

lotsa footnotes on these, but some good ideas design-wise.

note the porta potty in the flying field...not a good idea. but, nothing we can do about it. the landlord is doing land surveys and that's where they put it...end of story.

the best idea i've ever seen for a co-habitated plank/heli field: have two separate fields. this is the planker's runway. the heli pads are 90° off to the left.

a better view of how the two fields are aligned. this shot is from outside the locked gate viewing the parking lot facing east. directly in front is the plank runway. the shade structure to the left is facing the heli pads out to the north--6'x6' concrete landing areas...as many as you can fit with 30yards or so separating.

rugged, iron workbenches covered in outdoor carpet. tough to vandalize, tough to steal. i also like the 7' chainlink fence as opposed to the orange gate used to catch runaways on a plank runway. luckily i've personally never had to use the chainlink. but, there have been a few close calls over the years. (also note the diving space under the tables )

a good fence with a combination lock keeps out *most* of the riffraff when no club members are around.

the plankers' pit area. they build wood benches for themselves...but, a good shot of their shade structure. make sure you build it tall enough so tall guys can walk under it (the heli guys took care of me--even before i joined). just something to consider.

if it ain't broke…break it.

This thread is the pits.

Here's Bennett Field's East End canopy & pit (Heli Heaven), looking south from the north side of our 700' E-W runway, while standing in the abUsed Parts Dept:

Looking ESE from a cheap digital camcorder on my R50:

And, best of all IMO, The Bennett Field 3D Chong Hawaii Five-O Singers (beginning at 1:00 in).

Looking north from the tables under the East End canopy. Stars in the making, no doubt.

Really nice field
Bennett Field is where the Szabo story began 20 years ago, with Alan Sr's 2 sons Alan Jr & Danny -- in a playpen off to the side while Dad flew planks.

thanks for the Hawaii 5-O video. Nice flying.
Tain't me -- the guy flying is known as 3D Chong, dearly loved by everyone at the field. He barely speaks 37 words of English but no one gives a damn.

Do ya think we should form a band?

Thanks for the video. Looks like hard work but worth the effort. We have a section of the barn for our club. Just looking at designing the inside and outer walls.

Here's looking out from the new heated clubhouse that was donated to my rc club this past summer. It has a full kitchen and air conditioning too.

Nice pictures guys. more of your pit areas as we build ours. I travel alot and enjoy meeting new pilots and flying at new fields. All the clubs I've been to so far have been very friendly to visitors. The best so far was flying at the farm in OK. with Jamie Robertson and the guys there. They do know how to feed you and then some. Best FF on the road yet for me and some great flying even though it was windy. I'll be glad when the warm weather comes. Just when we think were getting some warm weather the cold comes right back at us. Were not as bad as the last photo. Looks Coooooold.... like Alaska.

Here is our charge station with 12V buss or all kinds of connectors to hook up to. 100 amp regulated supply inside for the 12v. Two hour timer so if you forget and leave it shuts off anyway.
