If the gear doesn't strip, then the price is quite reasonable.

Flying helis isn't an activity, it's a state of mind.

Since the gear is made of CNC'd Delrin it's going to be on the expensive side but it shouldn't strip.

On another note the HN7019-1 Align Main gears (16.99 for 2) should be out this week.

These are a bit wider of a diameter than the stock gears, they give a very tight mesh at first but once they are run in a bit they do loosen up.

You have lots of time to order it . It will be June or July before you need it

Having taught myself gear engineering and manufacturing in the last 2 months, $26 for a CNC gear is extremely cheap. I have come to appreciate why a lot of machined main gears are in the $40-$60 range. 5 inch delrin itself is in the $20 an inch price range from Mcmaster.

In any event, I have been brutal to my 700 and I have not had a gear stripping issue, and that includes a flight during which both engine mount frame bolts on one side came out (whoops!)

John, what are the temps your flying in though, I'm guessing that its not that cold in Atlanta

From what I have read and 'experienced' alot of the main gear stripping issues are not only caused from excessive gear mesh, but cold temps and brittle plastic.

$26, that doesn't sound bad to me, if I go thru my current set of gears, I might give it a try.

There are very good reasons why gears are made out of plastic. Metal gears would be very heavy, very loud, more expensive, and wear faster.

I'm curious to try the CNC gear. Hmmm $17 for two new Align -1 gears, or $27 for the CNC delrin. If you ask me $27 is a killer price for a CNC gear. Look at the price of the a Synergy N9 CNC main gear, $55...

I'm guessing the machined delrin gear should be quieter too. At least that's the way the Hirobos were when switching out the plastic gears for the expensive delrin.
