e-New & Emerging Electrics > The official RCer Dragonus 450 thread + FAQ

TechnexKey Veteran - Location: Berkshire, UK - My Posts This: Topic  Forum
Hello everyone,

I'm just starting a new thread up on the RCer Dragonus 450. A electric 450 helicopter from RCer which uses ~325mm blades. This helicopter isn't really new or emerging as it's been out for quite a while now, although it has been continuously updated when needed.

Features:

* Each part has undergone a strenuous 3D simulation, pressure testing and extensive real life testing
* Extremely durable moulded once piece landing skid
* Programmable Bell-Hiller head (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced pilot settings)
* 120 deg CCPM operation, precise moulding and high quality CNC machined parts all contribute to a extremely stable flying and ease of use.
* 35 Ball bearings for ultra smooth and slop free mechanics.
* Precise and slop free tail and head control system
* Main rotor grips contain two radial bearings and thrust washers. (Thrust - bearings available also)
* Direct tail rotor belt drive system
* Driven tail autorotation system
* Tough precise Main gear.
* Almost every part between the whole Dragonus range are interchangeable offering almost a unlimited choice to suit the user.

Length: 660mm
Height: 210mm
Width: 100mm
Main gear: 150t
Tail belt drive pulley: 51t

The Dragonus is available in 4 different versions. Plus, Performance, Elite and the Pro at the top of the range.

What I really love about the Dragonus is how stable and smooth it flies while still being highly responsive. And if you program the head to the advance setting it will be one of the fastest 450's cyclic you have ever seen.

Here is a video of the RCer USA test pilot flying the stock Dragonus Pro:

So any owners please feel free to post your Dragonus stories up, pictures, setup and anything you would like to share!

Anyone who is interested please feel more than welcome to post any questions, we would love to help!

Here are some pictures of my own personal Dragonus 450, I fly mine everyday (weather permitting) it's a truly amazing heli.

Please find our website at: www.rcer.com.

Thank you,

Laurence

Dragonus FAQ.

Q What are the best cyclic servos for a Dragonus?
A The best cyclic servos to use would be one of the following:

RCer MGS35 metal gear servos

Hitec HS-65MG metal gear servos

Hitec HS-65HB Karbonite gear servos (these are lighter and cheaper but may strip in a crash. You can replace gears with either Karbonite or metal ones.)

Hitec HS-5065 digital metal gear servos

You will need three servos in total for cyclic. There are many more you can use just make sure it is a Micro size.

Q Where can I get Dragonus parts?
A Here is just a example of a few places you can buy Dragonus parts from.

http://www.rcer.com
http://www.arkinnovations.com/shop/...e=index&cPath=4
http://hobby-lobby.com/dragonus-parts.htm
http://hobby-lobby.com/dragonus-upgrade.htm
http://www.helidirect.com/index.php?cPath=38_289
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=3_27_52
http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/...php?cPath=32_58

Q Can I use a tailboom mounted servo?
A Yes, you can. The Dragonus uses a thicker 12.8mm tail boom than most 450 sized helicopters.

RCer offer CNC alloy tail servo boom mounts (R02TP200) and another choice is the 3k Carbon tail servo mount(R02TP012).

Q Can I mount my battery at a 45 degree angle?
A Yes, you will have to purchase a mount to do so.

RCer offer two versions. A 3k carbon one (black and very light)

3k Carbon 45 deg battery mount (Black) (R02TP014)
SSG 45 deg battery mount (Silver) (R02TP015)

Another choice is this one:
http://www.mjpcarbon.com/inc/sdetail/6918

Q Does RCer have a website?
A Yes, you can find it here: http://www.rcer.com

Q What weight are the stock plastic flybar paddles?
A Roughly 5.4 grams.

Q What weight are the canopy choices?
A
Stock plastic canopy : Roughly 45 grams (Unpainted and cut (with side panels)).
Lexan Vision canopy (new long style canopy) is roughly 69 grams unpainted.

Thanks,

Laurence

I had one when they first came out and loved it. I no longer fly 450 helis, but I have been waiting for the 500.

Hi Bigdog, glad to hear that you loved it . Shame about loosing it but I understand.

You're in luck the 500 isn't to far away.

Here is some info for the 500: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897882

It's still in the prototype form but the 2nd main prototype is now out, more testing is being done.

Seem to be getting alot of flack from the masses, I don't quite understand the parts issue with the 450. I never had any problem getting parts, and when I sold it there were alot more hobby shops starting to carry them.

I would prefer to wait for a heli that is perfect from the start. The Atom and the Protos both had blade grip issues in the first run, and the Atom had no parts support.

I had an Arch 400, MX 450(same heli), two T-Rex 450s, HDX 450, SJM 400, and of course a Dragonus II 450 which by far was the best of them all. I bought the basic stock kit for $100, after I learned to fly I put a CNC head on it for another $100. I had over $1700 invested in one of my T-Rex 450s, and it never flew as well as the Dragonus. Don't missunderstand me, the T-Rex 450 is an awsome heli, but the Dragonus was a bit more stable and by far more agile. The Dragonus is the only 400 class heli that I flew that has some flight characteristics similar to a larger class electric.

I don't know if you have a different manual than me but I cant find were they identify ball mounting holes as a, b or c or what direction 1, 2 or 3 go, I will ask my friend to see his different manuals.
I don't own one but have done much work on the 3 he has. one is a pro with all metal head CF frame it flies great. Its fun to be the guy they let fly there stuff first. I didn't think it was going to be a good heli when he first asked me to help with one but was rather surprised how well it flew

EDIT I guess the picture you linked shows hole spacing

Hey everyone,

Not sure if people are finding it hard to find this thread as it's under the wrong section really or what.

Anyway, here's a pic of my Dragonus. I've now gone back to the stock CNC flybar arms as I feel the tolerances are better than this after-market e-copter one which I reviewed. (It does make set-up a little easier)

I encourage any Dragonus owners to post pictures, stories or videos of your flying .

Another little update is that RCer is working on a new website. Currently there are some problems with the connection speed to the UK at least, I am not sure where else is effected but it's being worked on as I speak.

As always any questions please feel free to send me a message or ask here, you're more than welcome!

Thanks brian94066!

Can anyone help me with the weights on the Vision 450 canopies, how much the FG version weighs and how much the plastic version weighs ?

=======================================================

The Dragonus 450s are truly well engineered well executed in manufacturing and are just fantastic in flight. It literally does everything my piped R70 set up for 3d could do and dare I say faster (my R70 is no slouch) ..

It has a fast rate of cyclic rotation and initiation, while being very stable, an the drive train is smooth as glass just to mention a few of many things that I love about these machines.

Pic of mine.

Hey, I just found this thread and I agree that it is in a bad place.
I just posted a message on the Crackroll site in the hidden Dragonus thread. In my message there I was stirring up interest in the larger Dragonus that was in the works a few years back.....I am still eargerly waiting.
Oh and by the way I will keep spreading the word about the need for a larger Dragonus and continued support for our 450 Dragonus.

Hi Tom, I'm sorry but I refuse to post on them "forums" the moderators there are not very nice people at all and are strongly biased.

If you want feel please, free to use the information or copy it directly if you wish.

Dos Equis, I am so sorry for the late reply. The Lexan Vision canopy (new long style canopy) is 69 grams unpainted. The stock plastic canopy is about 40 grams unpainted.

It's quite a bit larger and looks nice, is very aerodynamic too. The canopy is also held on very well while giving more room for your lipo.

Your Dragonus is a very lovely looking heli!!

Here are two new pics of mine, more in my gallery.

Here's a vid of my Dragonus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYH6BG8h4zY

I'll update the first posts now with some more info and pics.

I'm afraid I don't have any more info about the Dragonus 500. It won't be due out for a while yet I'm very sorry to say.

RCer's website is now fully up and running. You can find it at www.rcer.com

Thanks,

Laurence
