Hopefully to keep things together.

Added some more to the build Post.

Also checked my Thrust bearing as the updated document on the Compass site shows. They were as the document shows.

I tried them in both configs (thrust at the end or in the middle) and both seemed smooth and firm - guess it adds a bit more lateral stability having a radial bearing further out (wider base) - the rotor head comes built as per mod - just confusing to see it done differently in the manual

All you gotta do is look at the Hirobo assembly manual since this looks so much like it

Honk ... before it becomes offensive.

The tail rotor unit is very reminiscent of Hirobo - clam shell plastic halves and radial x2 and thrust bearings mounted up on hub retained by nyloc M3 nut

How's it Fly?

Hey Nolan,

How's it fly? Too bad it came in after the Orlando Helicopter Blowout.

You should be down here in Orlando. I heard Daleville's been a bit cold these days. We're supposed to be in the 80's Christmas day.

All the guys here at TORCHS will be at the field this weekend flying our new stuff. You're welcome to come on down. It's only 5 - 6 hours away. Be nice to see it.

While you're at it, bring down Copter Doctor. We'd love to see his scale ships.

It's always sunny in Orlando!

Hey Jason

Still have got to go by and say hi to your mom. Maybe soon.

Going to be in the 70's all week up here now. Sunday night was a ball buster.

You guys enjoy some great holiday flying this week. I'll try to do the same.

Still waiting for the fuel to arrive. So no nitro flights for me.

I have to get my trailer rigged up before hauling Emile's stuff. Damn scale birds take up lots of room!

Morgan Vacation Time

Hey, Remember that Fred @ Morgan supposedly closes shop the last 2 weeks of the year so they all can take vacation.

That could explain your slight delay in fuel.

Don't hold me to it though; I believe 1/2 of what I hear and all of what I see.

It's always sunny in Orlando!

I was looking through the odin manual and saw that the jesus bolt and main blade bolts are m3 size? Is that a typo?

Looks like a typo on the blade bolts as they are at least 5mm (have to measure them) but the Jesus bolts (upper and main gear) are 3mm. The yoke has a two pinch bolt arrangement also. Not sweating that coming loose.

I was watching the odin build video on the freak's site and everything seems to be pretty decent and well thought out, with the exception of the M3 jesus bolt. Any idea why they opt for a 3mm one instead of the current standard 4mm? I mean the chance of a 3mm one shearing in hard 3d is much higher than a 4mm one, isn't it?

Nonetheless, I really must say that I like everthing else and the lower gear ratio( 8.0:1) will allow a long stroke to run a much higher headspeed.

The M3 Jesus bolt is backed up by two M3 bolts in the pinch collar so I guess it'll be OK - the prototypes had over 700 hrs on apparently and this didn't prove to be an issue.

BTW she flies superbly - even with just 9° collective and a rich running motor she sure lays down the smack (albeit with an expert) - just cutting up a video now. For light 3D fliers such as myself she was very stable - didn't need any trim for hover and even with no expo flies smoothly with no nasty surprises - almost have to force her down for the autos - maybe its the cooling fan keeping her afloat - I think I'm gonna rig up the ESC to a spare channel (maybe lever AUX3) so I can shut down the fan from the Tx - more later - tthe family just arrived for Xmas dinner - Happy Christmas All !!

This is a great source of information. One look and I told myself this will be my next heli. If it is from Compass, it must be good! I just finished downloading all the 5 build videos by Mercuriell. Merry Christmas every one!
