Thanks for the info.

Gilmer is my hometown, I'm actually @ Fort Bragg, NC. I would go to Heli Unlimited in Tyler, however, I will be deployed at that time. I should be back in the states for on leave for your event (if everything falls into place, as there are many others trying to take their leave around that time frame), however, and plan on attending at minimum as a spectator, if not a registered pilot.

As for getting better for the event, I'll be limited to sim time and possibly my Mini Titan (no Rappy for me for a while :mad.

Hope to be there.

motel-lodging updated

I updated the Motel info a little on the posting for 2-3-2009.
RV's are welcome at the field. No hook-up. We have a brand new RV park, less than a mile from the field with all the bells and whistles that you need for your hook-up if you do not want to stay at the immediate flying field. Just PM me for more info.

100 days

100 days until the SRC and this year we are thinking about changing things up a little bit. In the past we have featured a non sponsored demo contest just prior to demos by the pros.

This year we plan some demos by the pros again! However we are thinking about making our non sponsored demo contest a night flying contest on a Saturday night. PM me and let me know if you are interested in trying it.

Last year there was not near as much night flying as in previous years so we want to promote more night flying, especially Saturday night.

Also we are hoping to have Nic Maxwell & Bert Kammerer and a few other great night flyers do some night flying again this year after the contest. We will see how things go, more details coming.

It time to start generating some more excitement for the Southern Rotary Classic. I know that quite a few guys were expressing their interest in it when I was at the Heli Blaze, so it its time for the guys to start expressing there interest in what they would like to see at the event.

First of all, we have a number of great pilots as usually that have committed to the event. However as always there might be unforeseen occurrences that might get in the way. Having said that, these are the top pilots that have confirmed more then once that they will be at the event this year.

Jamie Robertson, Nick Maxwell, Curtis Youngblood, Bert Kammerer, Tim Jones, Anthony Jager, Bobby Watts and still more to come.

We are still planning on having our non sponsored demo contest and I have already seen a couple of hot new pilots that are going to be great in the competition.

This year we are also thinking of adding a nightflying contest open to everyone. Yes, open to anyone that has nightflying equipment and want to enter.

It seems like there were 5 or 6 dozen people last year waiting on some hot nightflying which was not quite as good as could have been. So this year I had someone subbmit a very good idea for the nightflying contest. Anyone that wants to enter and I do mean anyone, pros including may enter and we "hope" to offer a nice cash prize to the winner, as well as second and third place finishers in the night flying contest. The average guy may not feel like he can win if some hotshot pro gets in the contest and takes the whole prize. However, someone might still be able to take second or third in the contest. So guys don't be bashful about entering the contest.

Now all of this has got to come together but we are hoping it will work out.

We have 2 brand new hotels that are already finish and one that should be completed by the time of the event. I will have more details coming soon.

SRC nightflying contest

Hi Scott
That is very generous of you to do so and publicly as well
So here is the idea and I will give credit to Scott for mostly coming up with it.

We are proposing to put out a donation box where guys can donate money and when I say donate, that is exactly what we mean donate money to a nightflying contest. Now some people might not be able to donate and some might not be able to donate much, but we want this idea to really grow so we are going to try it.

We will put out a lock box for the pilots to donate to the nightflying contest and at least several people each day can count the money to see how much is in the box, and on Saturday night we will give away all the money in the box to nightflying winners. Hopefully enough prize money to give away to at least 3 people. Kind of like what they do at IRCHA each year.

The contest will be open to anyone that wants to enter and we are encouraging the top pilots to enter. However to encourage more then just one or two guys entering the contest and taking home all the money, we are going divide it up at least 3 different ways, maybe more depending on how much money is in the box.

Furthermore, as I said we will count the money in the box and several people will be responsible for knowing exactly how much money is in the box, that way everyone can be assured that all the money being put in the box is being used for the night flying contest. However, we would like to keep it a secret as to how much money is there until the contest, but we might give out a tease

It is nice that Scott has said he will donate 50 dollars, although we don't expect that much from everyone one. I will also put in some money myself maybe 20 or 30 dollars as well.

Now to further encourage people to donate to the box, all those that do donate will be given an opportunity to vote on the night fly winner.

Plus, we are hoping to have an official sponsor of the event and give out some sort of ticket or tickets (perhaps according to how much you are able to donate) to everyone that donates for some kind of nice prize, therefore giving the guys even more of a reason to donate.

We can have a drawing for this prize just prior to the night fly.

Finally, we will probably start taking up the donations at the registration and if for some reason the weather forecast calls for terrible weather that Saturday night we might do it Friday night or cancel it all together if we don't think it will work out all, but rest assured we definitely will try to get the contest done.

Hopefully this is the start of something big!!!!!

Guys, Just in case you are wondering, I also want to let everyone know that you don't have to enter any kind of contest to nightfly. If you just want to night fly and have fun doing it, by all means you are welcome. There will be open night flying on both Friday night and after the contest Saturday night.

So please don't come up with some excuses about how you didn't bring your night flying equipment, you don't have night flying equipment or you crashed your helicopter during the day and don't have a dedicated night flying machine.

We have had some great fun during the day, but get ready and join in the night flying fun, because this could be some of the best night flying we have ever had at the SRC this year.

There is normally two events I look forward to toward the end of the year, that is IRCHA and the SRC.

This year is no exception

NIGHT FLYING CASH BOX

I am hoping that this generates a lot of interest, excitement,
and expectation for the night flying event this year! All that saw
the night flying at the 2007 SRC will admit, That was an absolutely
incredible show of lights in the night sky. It was really something
to see! I know a lot of us were looking forward to some more of the
same in 2008,,,, And then, Only me and one or two others about like
me even flew at all. Even though Our Impressive hovering of the 450
size helicopter was quite cool! It somehow left a hole where the night
flying should have been, and left us a little disappointed.

I want to encourage everyone to consider making a generous
donation to this cause. Think of it as a way of saying thanks alot,
for flying all day and then putting on a good night show to impress
us all! And those of us who donate get to decide who gave the
best effort.

I am looking forward to the best SRC ever this year,
Day and Night!!

Regards,
Scott Fulton

Working on a sponsor list for our event and it is beginning to shape up too. Hope to have some nice items for the pilots and also hopefully we have a sponsor for our night fly contest.

I would also like to start signing up guys for the Non sponsored demo contest as well as auto rotation contest.

Looking to get Nathan Spencer to do the auto rotation seminar we were planning on having last year. Maybe Nathan will reveal some of the tips that help him and Ron win so many auto contest.

F3C - Novice Competition

- Loveraptors -

Suggestion....

I'm not a beginner and I'm not an expert. I'm in the middle somewhere. I would like to see some type of competition like the F3C. Just watched a 2007 video of Curtis. I know it's kind of boring, but it would be good for those of us that have not reached the major 3D stuff yet. We still have a few months until this crazy get together. Think someone can put together a list of basic stunts in a certain order?

If I recall, there is the grassy area on the right side where the beginner competition was held last year. That would be a good place for the event. Kind of out of the way of the major guys doing their stuff.

Thoughts?

If those Cowgirls that you showed in your previous post come to the SRC, I'm there.

Maybe more people will show up if more people like that show up...

Hi Ty

I am open to all kinds of suggestions but the only things is, we probably don't have as much help as we would like and need for a whole range of different events. However, if enough guys sign up for different contest then I am sure the club will be open to doing them.

We want everyone to have a good time at our event and it has always been that way over the years, so if enough people sign up we can see where it goes.

Personally, I am excited about the new night flying contest. Look forward to seeing you there. I have always said it is the next best thing to IRCHA and it is right here in the Southwest so a lot of people that don't get to go to IRCHA and come to the SRC

P.S. Keep your eyes off them girls they might get you in trouble

tall grass

Hi Jeff
I think everyone actually likes playing in that tall grass across from the field so we will just let it grow, but if we do cut any of it, then it would turn to hay and people like playing in that too

As a matter of fact, a friend of mine crashed flying his helicopter a few days ago and there was virtually no damage to his helicopter at all, because he landed upside down in tall grass, didn't get the blades, spindle shaft, tail boom on anything on the heli, just a couple of links pop off. The tall grass acted as a great cushion.

Weldon is taking care of the hotels so if you have any questions about that get in touch with him.
