I just finished building this new relic. The bigest problem I had was it did not come with a motor or esc as advertise. This was a gift donated to the IRCHA Jamboree this year.

I found a new Speed 600 motor and castle ESC I never used before and put it in. All system go. Not enough RPMs on the head on a fully charged 8.4V (7cell Nimh) battery.

Only 1200rpm with no blades!

SO I am kinda stock with it, all ready to go, but still needing a motor. It really sucks that someone donated an incomplete item for a prize raffle.

I called JR product support and they were not helpfull at all, the guy just kept giving me the line, "we have nothing that works on this discontinued item".

Any advice on a good and cheap brushless motor+esc? This is a stock Voyager E (2 stage) 23:1 ratio, stock plastic head. I will like to see at least 2200 on the head. (Is 2200rpm safe?)
thanks

HELP

How about ANY brushed motors that would work on this thing on 8.4V?

Horizon still has the stock motor in stock. The Part # is JRP960626. They no longer have the speed control though. You should be able to use any brushed ESC with it but I do not know how many Amps it pulls though. Also the Voyager E also flew much better using 8 cells, on 7 cells it was bearly able to do much more than hover.

Paul,

Funny, I called Horizon a few days ago, not only I was told that they no longer carry ANY parts (let alone the motor or ESC) for the Voyager E, but that they have NO PRODUCTS that would work on the VE.

I already tried a 3250KV motor on 7 cells, a waste of time since the stock motor I am just finding out it was at least 4500KV and even that is low for the stupid gear ratio this thing has.

It is hard as hell to find a 4900 KV or higher motor that will get this POS off the ground without oscilating like a drunk duck, and not having a background in electric power is a big handicap when trying to find a solution to power this heli.

I was told at one of my LHS that a racing car motor may do the charm, but I dont know any, plus they may be all out of production.

I will take your advice and turn my 7cell packs into 8cells. That should help.

BUT, Which motor and where do I find one still my question?

EDIT AGAIN

I called Horizon today with the part number that Paul found. Indeed they have a few motors left and will replace the missing one on my kit. They would have replaced the ESC too if they had it.

My complements and thanks to Horizon Hobby product support and Mat who took care of problem in a profesional and friendly manner.

The oscilating problem is a caused by the head speed being to low. The Voyager E has a very small epm range that it liked to operate in to low and it would oscilate to high and it would start to vibrate. Most people anded up putting a brushless motor in it and used a 3S LiPoly. The motors that were either a Hacker B40-8L or a Hacker C40-8L. The B40 required a adapter plate to fit and the C40 had the same mounting as the stock motor. They both have a kv of 3750.

I think this might be the O.E. motor?

I'll be darn, where the heck were you mr Bluethunder. I got a motor comming from Horizon. They took care of it.
If that one does not work with 8 cells, there is a Kyosho Atom Smasher line up too.

It is a good thing that Paul mentioned the RPM window. I guessed that below 1700, it is a pig, but have no idea what is the high treshold for this head before it starts acting up, or vibrate as he pointed out.

Were these used with the stock pinion?
