It's no harder to design a good looking canopy than a nasty one. Why do car manufacturers 'dumb down' their base line models? to get you to buy the more expensive models!
It costs no more to make one model heli than another. The only extra cost will be in a few more percent in materials, yet 90's can cost double what a 50 will cost. There are one or two other factors that will push the cost of a 90 kit up a little, but only by a few percent, like extra packing and shipping weight.
I don't think it is in the interests of the manufacturers to make a lower cost 50. They would prefer you to buy their more expensive 90 size model. A lot of these things are bought on looks, and maybe an ugly canopy is all it takes for some/most flyers to buy the more expensive, higher profit 90 size model ??
There will always be a need (market) for a smaller, cheaper model, so they have to offer one. But if they can gently push you to the higher value (more profit) model, maybe an ugly canopy is all it takes for some (most) ???
Who knows?
But one thing I know is that it is just as easy to make a nice canopy, as an ugly one. Synergy know what a good looking model looks like as they have made one already, and they know it! Clever business men never make things they've not thought through. So there MUST be a reason why this canopy is ugly?
