First off, yes I did do a search to look for my answer before posting. Lot's of info about the 14 tooth upgrade and very little about the grey 8.67 gear.

So here is my question

Century states Grey Gear is 8.67

Then it is stated the 14 tooth gear is a 7 1/2 percent speed up

So what is the ratio really with both??

Is it 8.67 with both? or an additional 7 1/2 percent on top

Excuse my noobe

I think their reference to 7 1/2 percent increase is from the 9.76 of the Hawk to the 9 (from the 13T to the 14T) with the 14t pinion.

Their are two areas where the gears are easily changed without having to reshim or reset for differing gear meshings.
The primary gear and the pinion on the end of its' shaft.

Using the black primary and the 13T pinion you get a 9.761/1
Using the grey primary and the 13T pinion you get a 9.405/1
Using the black primary and the 14T pinion you get a 9.065/1
Using the grey primary and the 14T pinion you get an 8.735/1

So depending at what rpm your power combination (motor/fuel/plug/exhaust) develops its best compromise between torque grunt & horse power and what head speed you want to run at, you have a pretty easy and simple way of tunig your gear ratio.

P.S. there is also another clutch pinion from their old four stroke version that will even add a number of other easy to achieve possibilities!!

What rotor speed and engine speed are you aiming for?

That is exactly what I was looking for..

Thanks

So let's see

Hyper 50 max hp rpm = 17000

So drop a little for head room say 16000

16000 / 8.67 = 1850 Head Speed not to exceed 1950

Just what I wanted to know...

Thanks....

The number of teeth on the inside (that mate with the 13T or 14T pinion, is 60T.

I don't remember how many there are on the crown gear part. Easy for you to count though.

If I wanted a rotor speed of 2000 rpm and a engine speed of 17000rpm
What would the gear ratio need to be ?

is it 8.5 ?

Engine RPM divided by gear ratio = Head Speed

example TT 39 max rpm HP = 16000

16000 divided by 9.04 = 1770 Head Speed

example

OS 32 max rpm HP = 18000

18000 divided by 9.74 = 1850

* Note all math is at max everything so Head Speed should be about 50 to 100 less

Just for kicks

OS 50 Max rpm HP = 1.9 @ 17,000

17000 divided by 8.67 = 1960 is max head speed on the Frankin Hawk
I have it set to 1825 Head Speed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the black primary and the 13T pinion you get a 9.74/1
Using the grey primary and the 13T pinion you get a 9.41/1
Using the black primary and the 14T pinion you get a 9.04/1
Using the grey primary and the 14T pinion you get an 8.67/1

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OS 32
Low RPM: 2000
High RPM: 22000
1.000 bhp @ 18,000 RPM

OS 37
Low RPM: 2,000
High RPM:-21,000
Output: 1.4 hp @ 18,000 rpm

TT Pro 39H
Low RPM: 2000
High RPM: 17,000
Output: 1.35 hp @ 16,000 rpm

Toki 40
Low RPM: 2000
High RPM: 21000
1.4 hp @ 18,000 RPM

if you could run a 15 Tooth Pinion Gear (if it would fit) your Head Speed would go up some 1040 RPM (maybe more)

I didn't do the math, just guessing..
