What kits are available that have the weed eater motors in them?

Thats pretty good but not what i had in mind. Im seeing some pretty big helicopters out there and they look like they have big engines in them. like what i used to fly in my 1/4 scale.

I have 2 Century Predator Gassers. They use Zenoah 2 cycle weed eater type engines; 23 cc. You can also install a Zenoah 26 cc engine in them too. You can get the engines from Hanson or Toxic Marine. I'm sure there are other suppliers but those are the ones I've delt with or had friends do so.

You'll love the size and cost effectiveness of the Gasser. Fuel is less than $2.00 a gallon now. A lot better than $22.00/gallon for 30% nitro.

Have fun.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

Stan,

Those are what people here call "gassers". If you go about half way down the main page you'll find a link to the gasser section.
As stated some of the common manufacturers are:

Miniature Aircraft,- Spectra G
Bergen Model Helicopters- cant remember the name
Century Helicopters- Predator Gasser
Vario- Benzine
come on guys help me remember?

Dilbeck ,you always , almost always, seem to post in the negative.

Taking a dig at StanH's planes, by typing...
Those are chainsaw engines
Is ignorant of the facts.

How do you know what engines he has on his planks?

I , like Stan , fly gasser planks, gasser planks use some converted chainsaw cylinders.

ALL Helicopter gasser engines are converted General Purpose engines...i.e...the Zenoah's 23 and 26 are found in appliances all over the world.

However, gasser planes have PURPOSE BUILT engines available for them. Desert Aircraft, and 3W, BME, come to mind. They are PURPOSE Built , NOT Chainsaw engines.

Plane chainsaw conversions: Brillelli (defunct), Zenoah-all, CRRC Pro, and a host of others.

I use PURPOSE BUILT Aircraft engines , in my Planks. Completely from the get-go designed for AIRPLANES.

You cannot say that about the gas engines in our helis. My Spectra uses a modified Chainsaw engine a 231PUH, it started out life as a General purpose unit (GPU) , not a purpose built aircraft engine, but modified to be one.

Dilbeck you directly took an un-informed swipe at Stan H, apologize and you know it. Shame on you.

Stan H, get a Spectra G from MA, it is the Desert Aircraft quality Heli in the hobby, complete with DA style service, and reliability.

Welcome to Gas Helis StanH , see you in the Gasser forum.
I am sure it is the quality you expect after flying gas planes.

Thanks all. Ill see you in the gasser forum. I got out of RC about 10 years ago. Totally burned out. I gave away 10 helicopters and radios 20 airplanes. I kept 1 excel 40 and 3 planes. I was in the top 20 when 3D was getting started in the Tulsa area but I never got super good at it. A few flip flops and tumbles and a little inverted. I have been wanting to try the electrics because I don't like the messes. I would also like a gasser. I bought a 450 and put my training gear on it and am re learning all over again. I want to flip it over on its back so bad but I need to get the bugs out of both of us first. I'm having a few problems with my 450 and if I cant get them worked out I am going straight to the gasser. Its coming back to me pretty fast with all of the help that I'm getting. The older age isn't helping either.I don't mind getting a few pokes at all. Its kind of like I haven't been keeping up with the new tech.
Heading hold gyros??coreless servos?? Glitches meant you just went some where else to fly that day. Back when I was doing every thing was done with the brain. That's funny stuff right there. Keep the feed back coming and yall have a happy Thanks Giving. And for those not offended give our lord plenty of thanks we have a lot to be thankful for.One more thing LOVE your families they wont always bee here. Stan

Stan,

There are a lot of good people here, read, read, read.

Expect smarta$$ comments from some, sometimes they are made in jest , othertimes not.

there are great setup videos on HeliFreak, for the 450 and 600 machines by a man named Finless Bob. Even if you don;t have a 600 watch the head setup videos , the 120 deg swash is like a timepiece, very precise.

I know what you mean about going gas, right off the bat.

You won;t regret it, for sure. Polish your skills on the 450 , then the bigger machine will feel very very stable, and you will have good command of it.

I wanted a Gasser from the moment I first hovered my 450. From Gasser airplane experience I knew where I was going in this hobby right away.

Minature Aircraft's Spectra G is the top of the line. Hands down.

I am going to go fly mine right now.

Pull-Start baby, all the way.

Glad to have you aboard.

Search Youtube for Spectra G and Predator, .....

Following spad values i have a weed eater engine ready to be strapped onto a plane once i build one big enough...

but putting one into a helicopter... i think the powerplant is far more criticle in a heli and i'd want something more reliable and powerful...

A nice thought to ponder though

A Zenoah 23 is nothing more than a weedeater engine hence it's designation GPU ...General Power Unit.

it is also a water pump, leaf blower, edge trimmer, vacuum, generator, cement mixer, paint shaker, shingle thrower, and a host of other apps as well.....GPU. Certain distributors make small connection mods, carb mods, etc, for each app.

I flew my weedeater powered Spectra G a few minutes ago in 15mph wind....fun.

If and I say IF Desert Aircraft was to build a PURPOSE BUILT Heli motor, it would compare to none. Think about it .....reed petal induction with comparable tailored power curve. THAT makes me drool............
