A buddy of mine has one of these and we can't seem to get the blades to track. I am not very familiar with these helis so I'm not sure if this is a problem amongst all of them or if something else is up with his. He is flying Radix 325 blades.

It does seem like his blade grips are quite loose on the spindle and that they need more damping and maybe that is why. The arms that go from the mixing arms to the grips are not adjustable so we can't make fine adjustments.

Any ideas?

Nick

First tighten up that head. There should be 2 o rings in each side and sometimes they get wore out so you might have to replace them. There are 4 linkages between the main grips and the swashplate make sure there all the same length and then check it to see if there tracking. If there not start making adjustments to one of the long linkages that goes from the swash plate up to the mixing arm only a little at a time shorten it if the tracking gets worse start going the other way and start making it longer untill they are in track.Mark the one your turning on because you only need to adjust one of them. And make sure the blades are balanced.
Hope this helps.

I know how to build and track heli's but this one just won't seem to go in track.

We will try and tighten the head up and see what that does. I'm not sure what he has in there for dampening now and I am not very familiar with this heli.

Try another set of blades 1st. I just had a similar problem with mine after a crash, and it turned out the new blades were to blame - Align 325 pro woods. Another set of blades allowed it to be tracked again.

I believe the problem I had was from the blades having a different cord-wise balance from each other since they would hang at slightly different angles when suspended on a bolt.

Other than that, check for loose linkage balls, notchy bearings in the grips or dried out or damaged o-rings. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Oh yeah, you can also replace the linkages from the mixer to the grips with the trex ones that are adjustable - that's what I did with mine.

We have tried two sets of blades already... I will check everything else you mentioned also.

Thanks!

Check the two screws that hold the seesaw. I GUARANTEE you they are loose and blue loctite WILL NOT work on these. You are going to have to use red loctite on these to keep them from coming loose and screwing up your tracking. This is a very crappy design flaw with these helis.

You might look at the spindle (feathering shaft)

You guys have mentioned everything else in the head, but this is the first part to bend in a crash, you'll never get consistant tracking unless this shaft is true. It's worth a try.

We have replaced this. He tightened the mixing arms and we haven't flown it yet but this might cause the blades to fly at different AOA's.

The MX450 has many issues, My Take on Tracking;

1. Ensure the Head assembly is tight. You know them 2 seesaw screws that always come loose, get rid of them. (I cut the fly bar in two and ran a bolt through where the two screws were) NOTE: red loc-tite the flybar in the mixing arm only, my flybar paddles have not flown off yet but if they ever do..

2. Get 1/2 turn ball link ends. (Best thing that happened to my MX450)

3. The Pitch rod is NOT adjustable on the MX450, (I made some adjustable ones) Makes Tracking alot easier.

Hope this helps....made my bird Fly real smooth and when it crashes at least it crashes real Smooth!

Just to update you guys, we got it tracking. Once we tightened the seesaw and blade grips on the spindle it is good to go. He also got some adjustable links.

Thanks for the help.

An Align 450 ball/link set cures a lot of slop
and you get adjustable pitch links as well.
