The Beam is my first "big" heli. I'm finishing up a new build. Love the kit. But how much vibration is normal? Without main rotors, I'm getting a persistent growl from the main gear. The mesh is good. I feel vibration throughout the throttle range, some points heavier than others. At no point does it seem to hit a sweet spot. What's your experience?

There should be little vibration. check your flybar/paddles to see if they are centered and set up correctly... thats the only thing I can think of that might cause vibration. Also anything thats off on the tail will cause vibration since it is rotating at a super high speed.

Thanks. The tail is awesome. Super smooth, silent, perfect tracking, very powerful. I was getting vibration before attaching the flybar paddles; just spun a naked flybar. The paddles made it no worse. The main gear can move up and down maybe 1mm and isn't perfectly flat.

Try spooling her up with the main blades on, you can set up a 0 degree blade pitch curve to test it out. The blades act as a flywheel and might well smooth things out.

I think maybe the drive system operating without a load might be causing the growl/vibration. Never run one up without mains before though so I can't say for sure.
