OK, I know you guys might need a good laugh but this is the start of my attempt to put a Raptor 30 mechanics is an AH-1F fuselage. The start was not too bad, a little trial a error, but a start. Will post some pictures. This is going to be a long process so any info coming may be a bit slow. In one picture you will see where I want to move the muffler to. Have made the extension for it but have not welded it together yet. Also going to try to make the belt pulleys removable. The push rod for the tail rotor control I figure to go through the shaft tunnel of the fuselage. Well this is kind of the plan to start with. Going to give it a try. Someone once told me you can't beat a try. Besides the winters here are long, and I don't like to fly in the cold anymore.

Have a look at the Century Scale Muffler, it's flat and sort of boxy. Also I have a 50 size AH1 Cobra in the works. Drawings are finished, just have to convert them for the laser .. Yours is looking good though!!
Keep at it!

Thanks Dr. Tim. Having trouble uploading pics. About the Century will it fit close to the front of the Rator frame? I find you have to keep it close and narrow the keep the fuselage within proportions. That is way I used an extension that is narrow and just move the muffler forward under the servo mounts. Right now I am working with a Raptor 30 with a TT39 engine. Do not know if it will handle the weight, but could always upgrade to 50. Hope to see your 50 size AH-1, that would be great. Then I just have to save up for it. Thanks.

Checked out the Century Muffler and it might just work. I think you would have to have it face the forward part of the frame and change the exhaust outlet to the opposite side, then it would be facing down. the opposite of what is shown on there web sight. The dimension seem the indicate it might do the job.

Confused with the Century muffler size. One size is 30-38 the next size is 46-50. Does anyone know which one will fit the TT39?

Some Pictures. The arrow in the pictures show where the outside of the frame would be at 4 inches wide. this would leave me only 1/16 of a inch to spare after the side sheeting of 3/32 and plywood of 3/32 is used to make the fuselage sides. Close.

sliderx, I think your exhaust extension is the way to go in the narrow fuselage. I am doing something similar in my wooden EC Tiger, except I have some silicon tube in the middle of the join. I also did this configuration in a Century Hughes body to get the exhaust out through arse end of fuselage. Only difference was I had the manifolds made for me.

I also sneakily widened the fuselage a bit from its true scale width, but I swear you wouldn't notice ;-)

I find the Century scale muffler to be an ineffective silencer! Here it is in an early mock up with my Irvine 39. I am actually now going for a 50 Hyper with tuned pipe which is largely buried in the underside of the fuselage.

Sometime you have to tweak the profile a bit to make things fit. Even on the AH-1 I am trying to do it is about 1/8 inch wider then it should from what I can figure and the tail fin will be out of scale to fit my mechanics.. Thanks for the info.

Got a little more done so have some more pictures. Pic quality not to great through. Have some filling and sanding to do. Then tackle the turbine intakes next.

Would like to share a few more pictures of my AH-1 for my Raptor 30. Made some progress.

Still more pieces to make and sanding and some filler. Takes longer when you have to cut everything out and think of how you are going to do it. But it is an interesting challenge, for me anyway. [use Starwood for some hints, hope you don't mind Dr.Tim]
