Enjoy, is the most important part for sure.

There will never be anything that comapairs to the smell and sound of a turbine.

Rain here in NY yesterday which lead to beer and a little lathe work. Made the tube clamps for the flex drive. Also some shots of the gear installed and manually retracted.

Here is the information on this fuse. I am thinking it is a little big for a 500. There could be a 600 size fuse available soon.

Thanks Stan,

I really like machining some of the little parts here and there. Thats a big part of the modeling for me.

Not sure about IRCHA, there is a very long way to get this thing complete. We have been kicking around coming out for a day or two but we will see.

turbine VS electric

U made the right choice...now the weight and the-CG-will be much easier to manage.those r some kick a$$ mechanics. u know u can always put a cotton ball in ur nose with some dirty jet-a on it ...Kevin

Yes I think it was the right choice as well for many reasons. I smell jet fuel everyday for the past 30 years so if I never smell it again thats really OK.

I used the BVM Super Poxy with the little tips that mix it as it is applied. After cleaning, sanding, and fitting the wood and glass, it worked really nice.

Great job with the building documentation Butch!

I think the sound of RC turbine for heli is over rated. It never really replicated the full size because in the scale model, the turbine is disproportionately loud, over powering the blade noise. Whereas the signature sound of a full size is the dominant blade slapping sound.

In my opinion, an electric rc heli does a closer job mimicking the sound because the blade noise doesn't get muffled. Some electric motor has a high pitch whine that sounds like turbine.

The sound of the turbine is pretty cool but you do have a point with the sound from the Big e power. The Peka system has a large cooling fan on the motor and a fan on the ESC. They will make sone noise for sure. It may not be the perfect example but maybe a good faux turbine sound.

We will know soon.

This is nice to know. I was having many thoughts about changing to the e-power. I feel now, it was the right choice too.

I'd probably go with the turbine since that is my overriding interest. But those electric mechanics you are using look slicker than snot. My entry into the electric world was the old shogun and I popped a few batteries in flight. Limiting all future enthusiasm but that was a different application. Might look into it again.

I had an old Shogun also. It was my first e heli. It was not a good experience. I have been flying a T-Rex 500 and a buddies 600 from time to time and it sold me.

I am waiting patiently for the Peka Mechs.

somethng else i have noticed about the electrics over turbines in most cases it seems the electric stuff is easier to hide to allow for a scale cockpit. the turbines just have so much plumbing and extra stuff to go on board it makes it tougher to hide in a smaller fuselage (still big tho) then there is the issue about how the exhaust stacks look.
no to down grade the turbines though, they still have a high cool factor. the most impressive one i have seen to date is still that EC135 that Peter wales has. it sounds just like a real heli with the sound of the main rotors very clear.

Yes the exhaust stack can be a limiting factor. I'd rather go electric than have the exhaust in the wrong place. However, the LM mechanics seem fairly compact. I also like a model of a turbine helicopter actually being a turbine same as I like a recip actually being a gasoline engine. Plus if the model is such that the exhaust can be directed up toward the blades, it adds to the sound as the blades smack on it. Tinkering with the idea of trying a complete scratch build (should be done by 2020 ), part of the fun has been trying to figure out how to shoehorn a turbine into it. But electric would be an easy fit and may be the way to go.

I'm using this thread as an excuse to try the clipboard. But this is fairly compact.

Except for the large and heavy blocks of lipo batteries! The challenge is to hide and secure it, yet still make it easily removable for charging, since it is not safe to charge them while inside the fuse.
