Hi Again,

After much time away from home due to work reasons,
I have now, a nicely working prototype of the IMU single axis to control Tilt and/or Roll.
Time to light a cigar !!

This unit can drive a normal or fast tail servo that supports the normal, standard pulse width.

However, before committing to produce a few units I would like to ask the following questions to know whether the units will fulfill most people's wishes.

What type of servos do you have on your mounts ?
1) Digital or Analogue ?
2) Fast tail gyros or normal speed ?
3) Normal pulse width or narrow pulse width ?
4) What gyro are you currently using to stabilize your mounts ?

Hoping that those interested will reply to this thread.
For those who do not want to publicly give away their workings, you can always PM

Thanks

GeorgeM

Great news

I would like to use digital 0.12s/60 Counter Clockwise/Pulse Traveling 1200~1500 usec servos.
Currently using one 401 to stabilize the mount. I'm not using pan axis(it is operated by heli rudder), only roll and tilt.

Using analog, standard pulse width. High speed servos not normally needed.

Hi Again,

I've uploaded two new clips showing the IMU controlling a fast servo, and another one controlling a slow, standard servo.

You can see the PPM pulsetrain on my oscilloscope, which I use to confirm jitter free operation.

I wish to excuse myself for the soundtrack....
However.. sometimes, a nice servo sound is very appreciable !!

Now, where's that cigar....

Enjoy !!

George.. on the digital servo demonstration, is it my ears fooling me or is it "notchy"? Perhaps its just the nature of that servo, but it does sound that way. Is the transition through it's travel (the IMU) smooth enough for say tilt so that the camera doesn't see this movement?

Hi iflybyu77,

That s9253 has seen too many pirouettes and sudden stops in its lifetime. It's an old servo, which however still holds well.

But, to my ears, it's not notchy at all !!
It is very smooth acting and there's no notion of overcontrol.
And you can see from the movement on the oscilloscope that the pulses are very clean and not jerky !!
There's a full 180 degree movement coming out of the IMU if you have servos that can take it.

Perhaps the slower refresh rate of the video gave that impression as well. Very nice work.

Videos still work for me, even when I refresh the page ( F5 ).

Jascamera... This IMU is designed for TILT and ROLL applications ONLY. One unit per axis.
Mounted ON AXIS or one axis removed from axis its controlling.
Therefore, you need only 2 units per 3 axis mount, since the unit is not usable on PAN.
A no Drift PAN gyro is in the works, but that needs more time to develop.

I'll buy four if that helps production
Bought an AP2000 3 years ago and i'm still waiting
for Angelos' inertial sensor to come out.....

Hope this will be a solution in a logical cost!
Keep up the good work my friend!

George,

Count me in for the pre-order. Would it assist you if gyros, of your spec, were purchased and sent to you? Or a security deposit sent? Please let us know.

Cheers,

Patrick

Great news on getting there.

Using a Futaba BLS251 narrow pulse 760us frequency on the tail servo.

Hi Seablade,

Have you modified your BLS251 for 360 or did you sort it out with feedback after your gear reduction ?

No, I haven't bought a mount yet, been waiting to see how the latest mount creations that have suddenly come on the market finalize in form.

My error(just woke up!). I am using the BLS251 for my tail servo only at this time.
