I have an old ikarus mini gyro which contains CG-16D0 sensor(19.4x7.3x7.5mm).
It would be great if You could produce one IMU unit for me using my old gyro

How about here? http://www.iso-parts.com/Public/Sea...?Keyword=CG-16D

Hi aschuck..

Sparkfun is the site that many electronics techies and embedded programming guys check first for availability and prices.

The way you said it made me smile a bit !!

However, as for the benefit of informing other folks about it, thankyou for posting the info.

How many sensors do you need before you get a deal? I'd take 3 of these units...

Rhett..... I can't fly, but the Profi sure can.

So its just a more advanced, drift free and accurate system than regular axis gyros?

Nice going George.

I understand about saving a few $$. I have been using my BX24 because I have a few left over from other projects. I will move to the 'duino system soon since there is so much code out there and info about making IMU's on this system. Have you checked out www.diydrones.com and the imu Jordi has developed?

If anyone has some PG0-3gyros they don't want anymore,I can sure use them for this project.

Yes on the drift free. The combination of a gyro AND accellerometers(?sp:confused work in unison. The Accell's cancel out the drift by taking samples of the position and error that may have built up over a period of time.

It can't do anything the profi can't... but I don't have the money to buy another profi for my camera mount, or other projects I'm working on

Right on the ball aercam. I know you know !!!

I too would like any donor piezo gyros from the early 2000 - 2002 era.
It wouldn't hurt in my "experimentations"

However, ethically, you couldn't resell the gyro to other parties.
And the exercise of people sending in their gyros to be re-incarnated in their own purchased stabilizer ( you can mark secretly your own gyro ) would be OK.. sort of, but the process of mailing it would be tedious and open to other "risks".

Having said that....

I have thought also of a retro-fit of Angelos' VisionLock boards, ( of which I have a couple sleeping here in my drawers ).

I have PIC code ready ( sort of ) for the 16F872 used by those boards, just a sensor retrofit, and voila !!!

Thoughts ?

I agree with you on the re-sell part with donor parts, but that is not my goal. I just want to be able to have my cameras stay where I point them. For too many years now,the present gyro systems on a good day, that are being marketed do not come close a bad day with a true INS on the gimbal.

I designed several mount systems that I built in the past that worked great and didn't look like the "Borg" but the lack of stability always left me wanting.

borneobear .. of course not...

U.S.U.L. - Yes exactly.. that's just like the sensor I'm using right now, and for now, I'm happy with its performance.

Vadmcse - Thanks for the heads-up. Sadly.. the price for that might be prohibitively expensive.
I will try and contact them for a price though.
However having a 3d box like that involves CARVEC type camera correction in relation to the helicopter, and an extra module you need to purchase along with the core system.
That system is elite, and that's why CARVEC is not cheap.
The guys doing helicopter stabilization really know what they're doing!!
And they've been doing it for a long time. Kudos !!

I find your work very interesting and promising...and about the retofit of the visionlock I would like to take to your attention a different kind of board that does what a VisionLock does, it is made by FirmTronics, I have suggested this before to all people looking for VisionLock that are no more available...maybe you could do something with this (they are even MUCH cheaper and smaller that the VL, they are about 16 Euro each, moreover they are continuously available),

Of course as soon as you are ready to sell units count me also

here is the link to the producer's page (There is also a user guide download in the page):

Hi Lele,

Thanks for that Link. It sure is a very nicely designed item.

My vision lock comment earlier concerns the re-usability of a product that many have purchased to make their mounts stabilized, but the end performance was marred by the drifting.

After some thought, one can arrive to a conclusion that it's not cost effective to send the a board or two alone, but if the sender adds two old gyros to the packet, then it could become cost effective because you'd have saved the cost of the microcontroller and a gyro per axis.
And been eco friendly as well

The microcontroller in the Firmtronics, sadly is too small, and cannot be interfaced to the IMU.

Hi George

thanks for answer, sorry for the Firmtronic is not usable since, even if you are right about the fact that many already own the visionlock, the firmtronic board has the good think to not been a discontinued item as the VS, moreover I think that anybody could upgrade firmtronic since it is so cheap and also I am thinking of all that people (like me) that do not have Visionlock boards...

Discalamer: I have nothing to do with Firmtronics, I only bought one of their version of the Visionlock, and also have to say that I never had time to test it...
