Just got back from day 2. I have to say I'm blown away by the flying. The team exhibition and Bert Kammerer's solo was awesome. Congratulations, Detroit Aeromodeler's! You guys threw down!

Only a couple of small things could have been done to make this perfect.

1. Food and drink for spectators. I saw more than one family get turned away hungry. While I understand the limitations of the club, in conjunction with number two, below something could have been done.

2. Publicity. I found about this from a forum post on another site. Again, I understand the limitations, however to bring new people into the hobby, I think it's important. I'm no expert (only flying since January this year), but I do know with a little effort, low cost, or even free advertising can be had. At that point, a small admission charge for spectators is appropriate, as well as a small charge for food and drink.

Otherwise, I'm blown away. Again, congratulations!

Scott

The ultimate in Wedding Crashers

Did you ever go to a fun-fly and have a wedding break out? Well,
Big D put one over on all of us. Seems we were all crashers. We got the word to land about 1PM and BigD announced that his brother was going to get married in the midddle of the fun-fly. Really unique and lots of fun. BigD and Lady Luck smiled on the new couple as his new sister-in-law bought a boat-load of raffle tickets and happened to win two new helis and other stuff from the pilot raffle. It looked like she registered at every local hobby shop instead of a Macy's or Nordstrums for her wedding day.
Lots of good weather, over 80 pilots, some badA$$ flying, turbines, Bobby and Bert doing the helicopter tango, everything from Blade CX's to 90 size monsters, scalers and Scott Gray put that beautiful Sylphide FAI machine in the air and flew fast, large and as smooth as Canadian Whiskey. Just a great day and lots of fun. The Detroit Police and Recreation folks even crashed the party and wedding and threw a wet blanket on the party and made everyone move their vehicles to the streets off the grass. Too bad, but apparently somebody's rice bowl didn't get filled and so they had a hissy fit just because they could.
I am sure D will fix that come next year.

So if you didn't make it down, there is still tomorrow to catch some good fun and flying.

My first heli fun fly was nothing short of awesome! Managed to get 6 flights in this weekend. Big D you and your club can put on a outstanding show. A wedding at the field, how cool was that! Time to get rid of the planks and buy more heli's. Thanks again for a great show.

A very special Thank You!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to extend a very special Thank You to every one that attended this year's Mid America Fun Fly. I had a blast watching everyone from the guys that were just hovering to the guys that were beating their machines into submission. I want everyone to know that I appreciate you being there.

I've had some time to think about improvements for next year such as:

A better P.A. system.
A permit allowing everyone to park of the grass.
A permit allowing us to sell food (due to resrictions imposed by the city it's very difficult to sell food and drink so we gave it away and were simply not prepared for the turnout.
And more stuff for the novice and intermediate pilots to do.

It is very important to me that everyone that attends the event has a good time so I will contunue to work on making things better.

An extra special thanks goes out to the following people that really helped me make the event what it was.

Our 20009 Sponsors- Thank you for your suppport. Special thank to Suzie Cruz of Ready Heli, Ed from Dirt Burners and Matt from the Prop Shop. And the members of the DETROIT Aero Modelers for the use of the field and the help with the event.

Our feature Demo Pilots

BOBBY WATTS
BERT KAMMERER
DANNY SZABO
NICK MAXWELL
JARED GRANZOW
JC ZANKL
ANDY P
ALEX RODIGUEZ
KYLE AND RAY STACY
WILL FANNIN

ED SARE.

Thank you for being here this weekend. You could have been alot of other places but you were here with me and I truly appreciate it.

I look forward to seeing everyone at IRCHA and THANK YOU again.
