This past weekend I did a comparison... A buddy has a T-rex 500 with scorpion setup. I believe he has the 3026-1600 motor with 90A ESC. I was running my Atom with the stock setup.

We did a climb out test and they were very equal. He was slightly ahead of me once we got way up there. It could have been the battery though also. I was running an EVO 2500 and he had a Outrage 3000.

As far as flight times go... I get 4 mins to 3.8v/cell flying hard 3D. He was getting 5 mins to 3.8/cell flying aerobatics and mild 3D but he had 500 more mAh also. I think if they were both subject to hard 3D I think it would be the same.

Personally, I like the stock setup. I am very demanding and critical on my stuff too. I always want more power and I am happy with stock on this one. The only thing I might do is get a larger ESC so I can strap on the 10T pinion and run my servos at 6v.

What is the reasoning to go with the -1000 vs the other ones? I am still trying to understand the practical differences in the different kv's.

From what I have seen on all my friends birds, the Scorpion cools better and the Lipo's are barely warm after heavy 3d flying. I would think that the scorpions tend not to pull as hard on the lipo's as the stock set up.

Our tests(I use the term lightly) this weekend showed that the stock Atom motor/ESC stayed cooler than my friends Scorpion setup did. We checked the temps after our flights. Pretty good considering I was flying harder. Pretty equal on the flight times also and I was running a 2500 Evo and he had a 3000 Outrage pack.

I agree, the stock motor barely gets warm. The batteries are only warm after five minutes, and the ESC is cool.

I can see no reason to change the motor. I am not sure the other motor would actually be an upgrade.

Hmmm, interesting. Our comparison was for a stock align motor and a scorpion, both on stock speed control. I guess different manufacturers are very comparible to one another then. I guess it will end up to which ever one performs the best for indivual flying style and set up. I am putting together a 600E with a HV85CC Phoenix, 4025-740 KV Scorpion w/16t pinion to run the A123 10s pack. It is going to be intresting to see how it does on a 170t main gear at 33.3 volts.

Drangonzsled, were you comparing an ALIGN motor to a Scorpion or an ATOM motor w/hobbywing ESC to a Scorpion?

The Align motors/ESC tend to get warm...

Hey Wings,

I was comparing the Align motor to the Scorpion. The lipo packs were staying cooler after hard 3d w/ Scorpion. The Align stock set up was making the packs really heat up. Stock ESC for both set ups. Sorry for any confusion. You are right about the Align motors getting warm. Most everyone I know that fly's T-rex go to the Scorpion's.

Sorry to be part of the confusion.

My comments were regarding the stock Atom 500 motor vs. the Scorpion.

Yeah, to sum it up as RAK said, if you are getting an Atom there really isn't the need to upgrade the motor/ESC. It performs just as well as a Scorpion setup and runs cooler and I got better flight times with all things considered.

Hi both motors are great motors

depedning on your style of flying will depend on the motor you want
I have flown alot of differant setups in the little Atom and i feel a CC80 with the Scorpion 3026-1000 has the best performance for flying 3d w/10 tooth pinion i have many flights wiht this setup

Using Outrage 25c 3000 packs adn 30c 2500 packs and the Flight powerEvolite 3200 packs all 6s
