Futaba 12FGH & Spektrum DM8 Module Problems

Its been like more than A year since I posted in this thread

Im Having problems with My Futaba 12FGh originally with a 72Mhz module

and I got this Spektrum DM8 (Fut MZ) module that would suppose migrate all my existing systems to 2.4Ghz.

How ever when I pop in the module and connected the the lead for the trainer port, attatched the antenna, plus Ive even set modulation to PPM (as said in the instructuions) but when I turned on the radio the display says
"RF MODULE IS NOT ATTATCHED"
"CONTINUE? YES"
the red LED indicator just beside the T6 switch below the T12FGH is blinking rapidly

It seems that the radio doesnt recognize the module , visually I see an orange light emitting from inside the spectrum module.

WHat am I missing to do here? Help!
Thanks in advance , and more power

That's normal operation with the Spektrum module. It will work just fine, but the led will flash continuously because the transmitter doesn't see a valid Futaba module attached.

Only feature that is missing is model recognition. I learned this the hard way. Well, not that hard. It is annoying to see the blinking red but I got used to it.

Congrats brading for going 12FGH. You'll love the menu and navigation ease and of course the features of this TX. I own the 12Z though they're much similar in terms of feature and operation.

The Spek module is nice choice btw, you'll have wide selection and lesser cost of RXs. Try to convert to internal ANTENNA like some here did to their 10C

See you at the field

Horizon has changed the price of the Futaba module to about $10. So, the module + Ar7000 receiver costs $110.

Can someone post the scan of the manual showing channel mapping on the module? I threw away the manual and the on-line one is no longer available.

The module takes in the PPM data stream, so the channel mapping remains native Futaba.

Also, just to be clear - when using any of the Spektrum AIRMOD TX modules you'll get 1024-bit resolution, no ModelMatch, and no ServoSync.

I am still struggling with the channel mapping. It is like a trial and error as ch1 on the tx does not translate to ch1 on the receiver.

The manual has that map.

Look at the channel mapping in your TX manual. That is how it'll come out at the receiver.

New Problem Arose

NOw that Im past the binding process,
Ive noticed that there is a default mix with

1. the Throttle and Aileron
( WHen you throttle up the aileron tends to bank to the left

2. the Elevator and Rudder
( when you pull the elevator the rudder tends to turn to the left)
( when you push the rudder tends to turn right)
all given mixes are inh or disabled

is there a proper way to remedy this?
Ive tried activating mixing of the elevator and rudder where Ive achieved no movement of h the rudder when you move the elevator by way of offsetting

whats making me crazy is how to eliminate the mix on the throttle and aileron. Ive tried to work it out at the AFR Ail menu but then
my movement of the aileron is a bit impaired.

Help please

Brading: Please check and make sure your current model is set for airplane. With your observations (thr-ail mix) it seems the settings are for heli. If you got the 12FGH, all models are set to heli mode as default. Also try to go to the FUNCTION menu, make sure that your servos are connected to the right port on your receiver. Futaba had made some changes on the default channel assignments. Goodluck.

Any update on this situation? I am looking at buying an FGH12 today with the Spektrum module as I have a DX7 and a couple AR6100s. I like the cheap cost of the Spektrum receivers, but I want it to function properly. BTW - The FGH is being discontinued and is only $799. Thanks

NoLuckChuck,

I already found fault of the problem and now that the radio is working fine in tip top shape.

I am confident to recommend you that the combo is ok as I have now.

More Power to Futaba and Spektrum!

Put your Futaba module back in first. Then change the model to PPM, then change back to the Spek module. It will say something like no module found. Just ignore it.

Please excuse my ignorance, but does this mean I must have an RF module (72MHz, or some other freq)? I purchased the 2.4GHz version so I do not have the module. Guess I will be purchasing one... Thanks

It will probably (guessing) work if you have a module that Futaba recognizes. Do you have the Fast module? Try with that first.
