The Futaba factory has recently notified us of a difficulty with some of the TM-14 modules that were produced and shipped to America in 12ZA and 12ZH transmitters between July 1, 2008 and September 30, 2008. Great Planes has worked with Futaba to verify our records; there have been less than two dozen of these items received in the United States which might exhibit these difficulties. To ensure that our customers don’t experience any problems with these modules we are issuing a recall on any transmitter which includes a TM-14 module with serial numbers: 8430001 through 8432345 and 8440001 through 8442504.

If you have purchased a 12ZA or 12ZH transmitter after July 2008, we encourage you to look at the serial number for your TM-14 module to ensure that you do not experience any difficulties. If the serial number of your module falls within the range noted above, please contact the Futaba Service Center immediately for information on how to return your TM-14 module for replacement. Please note: When shipping your item to us we recommend that you insure it and use a shipper that offers a tracking service (for example by Federal Express Ground or UPS Ground). For shipments from Canada, you may prefer to use the postal service to avoid brokerage fees, however tracking is not available. If you include a copy of the receipt, Futaba will reimburse you the cost of the standard postage and insurance fees necessary to return this item to us. Please note: this does not include any expedited handling costs. We will also ship the replacement module to you free of charge.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Futaba Service Center at: 217-398-0007 or via email at: service@futaba-rc.com. Our staff is available to assist you Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm U.S. Central Standard Time.

gee Bill,

i haven't looked at my serial number on my 12Z yet as i am away from the house, but could this have been the cause of my crash that i have posted about in which one topic alone has had over 7,000 views?

We've been advised that the difficulty happens when multiple transmitters in the affected serial number range are operating simultaneously. You get some glitching, but not cessation of operation.

thx Bill.......i'm still confused as to why my radio quit in the air............the 6014 has been lost by the US Postal service so i will never know what happened.
i never thought that the Postal service could lose a package, but they also delivered a GP Reactor Bipe to the wrong city here in CA when it was addressed to NY.............

BTW, the 12Z with my other Rx's has been flawless.

The text here notifies the problem with the 12ZA and 12ZH models but at the Futaba FASST home page, at transmitter modules, the label says urgent!recall notices and includes the 12FG model, too.
I´m asking because I live in Brazil and I have just bought a 12FG at Tower Hobbies and my wife´s sister is bringing to me next week.

This problem is affecting the 12FG, too?

Can I send back from Brazil to module replacement? Because in negative case I will return the radio to Tower ASAP.

Regards
Marcelo

It's easy enough to see, just look at the serial number of the module in your radio. If it's in the range, then send it back. If not, then you are good.

Yes, but I would like to know if I can send it back from Brazil to USA.
If not, how the radio is still in USA I will prefer send it back to Tower.

Thanks

Tohme,

you might get a faster response about this from Bill if you post here,

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_125/tt.htm

Bill posts here, but usually is occupied with this other area for replies.
from what you describe though, i'll bet money that Hobbico will indeed take care of this for you.

Summerwind

Thanks, but I tried to to contact Bill at the link you sent me but the topic is locked.
Anyway I contacted my wife´s sister and she found a number at the TM14 module, but isn´t a serial number how described at the start of this topic, but I think a ID number: 08370057.
Do you think she found the correct number? The other one has letters, too.
If this is the number I´m looking for I think the module is OK!

Summerwind, the 6014 is prone to shutting down due to heat. It's not a mystery. Its an ongoing problem that Futaba just seems to not want to fix. There is an official line on the airplane side that talks about mounting the receiver on edge, no foam for better airflow, covering the airplane in lighter colors.....what?! I fly Futaba and have for years and even I can't pretend that this isnt silly. I dumped all but a couple of my 6014's as I simply will not risk anything of value or of much mass. Its very possible it's your receiver that cutout.

Marty,

i basically need only 7-8 channels and have gone and replaced everything with the updated 608FS and HS version.

i've seen other 6014's operate in extreme heat with no issues. mine was a fluke.
i still remain a loyal Futaba user and have seen far more issues reported by non Futaba users.
i've been told that some non Futaba users have been hit on the 2.4Ghz, but have never seen so much as a twitch with Futaba.
i think the overall problems out of the gate for Futaba was due to pressure to get on line before they really should have............
