in a pool your muscles will be paralyzed, in fact there have been deaths in pools from ground currents passing through the pool

show me where you got that info.

the pool is energized, you are energized with induced voltage however without a path to ground nothing happens. Provide that path and it's death to all...
just hope the pool doesn't spring a leak..

show me where you got that info
as an electrical engineer we did an experiment many years ago at about 50v and with a plastic container and an electrode in each end our hand was paralyzed while in the bowl .....that's proof in a pool you can drown if there is any sort of current flow across a pool even as low as a few volts from muscle paralysis

You could in theory get away with this for the same reason they can hook to up hi power lines with a helicopter
you are very brave..... you would DIE

as I posted this before.... you will not die.
as long as you don't provide a path for the volts to go you and the pool are as one... by you sticking your hands in the bowl of water and your feet(I'm guessing) are still on the ground(yes some shoes are conductive) you will get shocked...

are you just thick? you will be paralyzed and die I am not going to argue with you but remember current traveling through water WILL pass through your body AS WELL as the surrounding water let me also say the human body is full of salt.... making it more conductive....path of least resistance springs to mind

you dont seem to uderstand the concept

I myself have worked on 11kv LIVE and it was without issue.... once you are charged up to the line voltage.... but this is WAY different to imersing yourself into basicaly what is the conductor (water) and let the current travel through your body our experiment involved one electrode at each end of the bowl... nothing to do with feet? duh

Yes I'm hard headed However I will say this I work in this stuff all day every day and have to do what the guy in the heli does on a regular basis and have never been shocked.

as long as you energize yourself PROPERLY to the voltage of said bowl you would not have been shocked.

or you would understand what I mean...
what you are saying is with current traveling through the "bowl/pool" it magically goes around your body and not through it? don't think so

Yes there is no effect until you provide a path.

ok then

WARNING TO ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH TO TRY THIS..... DONT it will kill you I have 30 odd years experience as an electrician and now as an electrical engineer DONT TRY IT

I don't think it's dangerous. First off, whatever that cord is plugged into will pop the breaker and if it's an outside outlet it's supposed to use a ground fault circuit that will immediately trip at the presence of water over the plug.

That's if the strip sinks.

Secondly, the most driving the outlet would be 20 amps. I don't think 20 amps dispersed in 10,000 gallons of water will hurt you before the breaker kicks.

A bathtub is altogether different.

Bathtub provides a path through the drain.... all it takes is less than 1amp across the heart to kill you...sooooo 20 will work just fine...

Yea but in 10,000 gallons of water the path will be so dispersed that it would be insignificant. Most pool electrocution deaths on record have the victim touching the electrical source or appliance with their hand or body while in or around a pool. Also the path of least resistance happens to be the return or ground wire in the cord.

Needless to say, these guys are just plain stupid.

Hate to tell you coop but wingman and dwntyme are absolutely correct! Without a ground...aka path, you would be perfectly fine.

It's the same with a skydiver caught in high tension lines....as long as he/she doesn't step on the ground, they are fine...

Just because you have been involved in electricity for 30 years does not mean you know everything and can't learn. This is actually basic electricity 101 and if you are truly and electrical engineer, you would know this.

Not trying to flame you or bust your chops, but you sure seem arrogant in your responses to these guys.

http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~...al_current.html you dont need 20 amps .1 of an amp will do just fine.....

no once again you are showing how little you really know

current/voltage will flow through the water, some directly from phase to neutral within the plug but some will also flow from phase through the grounded pool back to the local transformer/nearest earth peg

this is not even close to the same thing! the skydiver wont get a shock because he is sitting at the same potential as the lines, in a pool with a flowing current as I stated above the current has a path to follow

you are a very good armchair expert but you know nothing on what you are talking about ......... current flows through the water to ground....oh and also the person in said water.... all it takes is 100ma to kill you 20-50ma will paralyse you and drown you in the pool GO TRY IT THEN AND TELL ME HOW YOU GET ON?
