Hi All,

I am trying to contact the people at Zimmerman (interested in their wrap-around muffler), but cannot find their email address. I did contact a distributor, but they only have an Xcell, not Spectra muffler. I guess I could use the Xcell muffler and do a simple mod to make it fit the Spectra, but I'd rather use the one originally built for my heli.

If anyone knows their email, can you please either post or PM me?

Thanks!

...Bruno.

Isn't the Spectra Xcel's gasser? I would think that it would be based on which way the engine is mounted. Either forward or backward.

Bruno,

try this one:
info@Zimmermannschalldaempfer.de

I am using the below one for my predator with the G231PUH engine. The muffler is pretty quiet, can be used for 23 - 26 ccm and they have it for different exhaust sides (left/right).
I think it was initially developed for the GAS HER from QWW.

On my predator I used to have the rear muffler but this new one is more quiet and you do not need a header.

Thanks guys,

I'll contact them for more info.

ShuttlePilot,
The Spectra-specific mounting lugs on the wrap-around muffler are spaced closer together than the same muffler designed for the older, Xcell gasser heli, as the Spectra's frame is narrower at the point where that kind (rear, wrap-around) muffler is attached.

Hi Bruno

Cut and paste from Raja`s
http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...?top=1221822363

"I have be looking for a ready to mount
Zimmermann rearmounted muffler system
like the one on Raja`s pictures, and a
shop in Belgium http://www.rcmarket.org/home.php
have them.
You can`t find the system for the Spectra
on there "exhaust" page,
you`ll have to send them a mail."

The owner of the store has told me that they
have a ready to mount "rearmounted muffler"
for the Spectra

Regards Bo"

I didn't know that!! As they say....learn something new everyday. I'm using the same muffler that Kevi is using and it is very quiet. Actually the intake side is much louder than the exhaust.

MUFFLER

We have them in Polished version.
in fact there is a possibility to have it in black.
we also seen some copies already done, and they definately not in silver polished,Silver polished is better because you can see on the muffler Lazer welding which is the way Zimmermann make their mufflers..

Lazer welding

Is that good? It may be "lazer" welding but it leaks anyways. Guess its not "lazer" enough. My original 1005 muffler I had rewelded some years ago as it leaked from the ears and also from the inlet pipe. Its been good ever since I did that.

My Spectra-g muffler leaks from the inlet pipe. Not alot, but somewhat disappointing as you don't want it to leak and look messy. You should pass the word to zimmerman to improve the "lazer" welding so that it doesn't leak for other folks.

Mounting Bracket

Can you please confirm the dimension of the mounting bracket?
My Spectra G side plates measure 23mm and your pix looks a litte wider than that.
I would hate to have to give it up for being to large.

Thanks

Looks like the Spectra-G Muffler has been added to their Exhaust page as a "New" * system. Very happy to see it and hopefully someone will provide feedback on how it works and as Raja mentioned, Any leak problems.

Lazer welding is the best way, and also most expensive, not to mention also its the lightest method.

i am not sure what the issue with your muffler, but you have to know one thing:
Most cracks/leaks caused by vibrations, and there is nothing can resist those with the time. i can tell you i have seen the differences between normal and Modified motors, e.g hanson, its 2 different engines. one smooth, other vibrating if not tuned.

Also, there been many knock off on the market, Vario mufflers are NOT zimmermann, they are made elsewhere, same goes for quality.

not sure if you even have the original, but for last couple of years , development and improovement of Zimemrmann is second to none,
products are great, even Japaneese using them with proud..

victorb

Distance between the flanges is 50mm, to allow you using dampners, or spacers to mount the muffler.

there are no leak problem, and will not be, if you mount it properly and protect as much as possible against vibrations.

My muffler was a special order from Zimmerman made for ChrisKR who is in Thailand right now. He speaks German and he had Mr. Zimmerman make it for him. It fits perfectly on the Spectra-g frames with no dampeners (distance is 23mm) and its silver in color.

I painted it black as silver keeps flashing the sun in my eyes every time I flip the helicopter. There are pictures of it in my gallery.

I just gave it another fresh coat of paint hoping the paint will plug up the leaks. Maybe its laser welding didn't hold up as well due to the flanges not being rubber isolated but heck my original 1005 muffler was the same way.

Take a look in my gallery to see this one.

Wrinkle paint powder coating looks nice too. If someone doesnt have access to service like that, I can get it done for them. It lasts forever.

Not handy, I will get a pic and post it here. I think it looks pretty slick. Its a better alternative to just black, imo. I have an old Cushman motor scooter that I restored and had the entire motor done up like that. I got a lot of compliments on it.

Found this link to a picture for the time being. Scroll down and find the Cobra valve covers. The pic doesnt really do it any justice, but gives the idea.
