Gentleman,

Just wondering if others are using a throttle jockey or ATG and if you installed the magnet in the hole provided in the fan?

I made the mistake in only CA'ing the magnet in, it popped out and melted the fan and cooling shroud. I know i should have used epoxy so i'm wonding if others using these governors have used epoxy or drilled another 4mm hole?

Ideally i'm looking for successful installations with epoxy rather than drilling another hole.

Regards,

Justin

I am in the build stage of my Avro and am installing the RevMax limiter as well. I used epoxy with the standard holes provided and worked very well. The air escape hole at the bottom of the magnet recess should be present if not simply drill a small hole allowing a small amount of epoxy to form on the back side of the fan. Etch the inside of the hole with an exacto knife tip and clean with alcohol or acetone prior to installation. Never lost a magnet doing this.

Also, put a light coat of epoxy over the magnet and make sure its a larger diameter than the magnet.
Your essentially securing the magnet top and bottom. The sensor will read fine with this top coat in place.

I will add to this:
Please position the fan as close to the top of the fan shroud as possible. If the fan flexes, it will do so downward. My mistake was to have it just off the bottom of the shroud and I didn't leave any room for error.

Ryan,

Are you running a YS? If so, did you use the washer?

Just as an FYI - I used the washer on my YS91 and it appears to lend itself to keeping the fan on the high side in the shroud. I hope this is right because the manual does not say one way or the other about using the washer on the crankshaft. I just assumed that is to be used.

I agree, the manual does not elaborate I had to use all the shims to get the top of the shroud to clear the fan. If I were to use the washer, I'd rip the top of the shroud off

I apologize, as my intent is not to hijack or change the subject of your thread, but since the discussion was regarding the fan etc, I hope your ok with it.
I spoke with Amanda this morning. The design of the collet and hub assembly preclude the use of the crankshaft washer. Hope this helps.

No washer here and I still had to add a couple of extra shims (on top of those in the kit) to the shroud mount to get it to clear the fan all the way around.

I had a fan/shrowd/thrown magnet meltdown at a recent funfly. I had two Throttle Jockey magnets in the stock holes with epoxy. I don't think my epoxy failed. I think the shrowd ripped the magnets out.

I threw both magnets. I melted my fan shrowd. I replaced the magnet sensor with one of those backplate sensors from the 7100R. It plugs right into my Throttle Jockey. Done deal, and I was back in the air with no magnets in my fan at all.

Try it, if you can find one. I found that the sensor works reliably on my OS c-spec once I back it off from the backplate about a half millimeter.

There isn't a lot of room for error with that fan shrowd. And when mine melted, there was even less room as the plastic warped. I slotted the screw holes in the fan shrowd so that I could move it a little lower and make some clearance for the underside.

Just curious... I am installing the ATG V3 on my new 3d Raptor 90 and the sensor pack only comes with one magnet. Is it correct to install the governor with nly one magnet or is another one needed???

Would really appreciate the help!!!

It only senses one magnet- just make sure you have the correct polarity of the magnet facing the sensor which can be checked prior to installing in the fan. If so desired you can fill the other magnet hole in the fan by using epoxy to offset the balancing factor.
